# AI Anime Girls as Creepypasta Images
AI Anime Girls as Creepypasta Images is a late 2022 and early 2023 Stable Diffusion and NovelAI img2img trend that reworked internet horror staples like Jeff the Killer, Smile.jpg, Squidward's Suicide and Trollge into cute anime girls and lolis. Starting with a Jeff the Killer edit on r/okbuddybaka in December 2022, the format jumped to Twitter within a week and produced one of the earliest viral AI remix formats of 2023.
## Origin
The earliest known creepypasta-to-anime-girl AI edit was posted on December 28th, 2022, by Redditor Jank9525 to r/okbuddybaka, a Jeff the Killer rendition that collected around 3,400 upvotes in 23 days[1]. The same image was crossposted to r/creepypasta later that day and picked up roughly 1,100 more upvotes in the same window[9].
The format jumped to Twitter on January 4th, 2023, when user ExoticMudkipz tweeted a different Jeff the Killer version with the caption "what a nice lady. surely she would look the same from a distance or quickly glancing at her," earning about 24,900 likes in 16 days[4]. The next day, LibertyKing76 reposted that image with the caption "The human brain can detect patterns lets test it out," which took off and reached roughly 142,300 likes in 15 days[2]. The identity of the original artist for either of those Jeff edits is unconfirmed[4].

## Overview
The format feeds a well-known creepypasta picture into an img2img model like NovelAI or Stable Diffusion and asks it to produce a conventional anime girl. The model keeps the silhouette, pose and framing of the horror source while swapping the frightening details for big eyes, scarves, hoodies and soft colors[2]. The joke lives in that split-second double take, which captions like "The human brain can detect patterns lets test it out" push on directly by inviting viewers to find the original creature hiding inside the cute character[2].
Common targets include Jeff the Killer (long black hair, pale skin, wide grin), Smile.jpg/Smiledog.jpg (a dog's teeth-baring expression translated to a smiling girl), Squidward's Suicide (sunken eyes and a sickly palette) and Trollge (a wide mouth and bulging eyes mapped to anime proportions)[4]. Posters often share the output alongside the horror original or line several conversions up in a grid so the resemblance is impossible to miss[6].
## How It Spread
On January 6th, 2023, Redditor ItsAzai posted an anime girl Trollge to r/NovelAi alongside a step-by-step diagram of the NovelAI img2img process, earning over 500 upvotes in two weeks[3]. ItsAzai also published a companion Imgur album with the intermediate drafts and alternate Trollge girls from the same workflow[8]. Later that day the Trollge version was reposted to r/blursedimages and pulled around 42,800 upvotes in two weeks[5].
Smiledog.jpg joined the lineup on January 5th through a reply from Twitter user stwabry to the LibertyKing76 thread, with another iteration from yoshidenlover following on January 10th[4]. The format peaked on January 13th when RetroDubsVA tweeted a four-image compilation that added an anime girl Squidward's Suicide, captioned "I'M LOSING MY SANITY EVERY TIME I SEE THESE IMAGES MAN," which hit about 106,200 likes in a week[6].
A separate Squidward's Suicide girl from Redditor Potataly ran on r/okbuddybaka on January 12th and gained roughly 2,000 upvotes in eight days[7]. Rule 34 versions of the Squidward girl showed up on Twitter by January 18th, with user 6h5t7y collecting about 1,400 likes in two days[4].
## How to Use
The template typically starts with a famous creepypasta image fed into an img2img workflow with an anime checkpoint. Posters often share the input and output side by side, or pair the result with a caption that nudges viewers to look twice, like LibertyKing76's pattern-detection line[2]. Redditor ItsAzai's r/NovelAi walkthrough is a common reference for people trying their own version[3].
