# Amelia (Pathways)
Amelia is a supporting character from Pathways, a UK government-funded visual novel released in 2023 to warn teens about far-right radicalization. In January 2026, X and Reddit users reclaimed the purple-haired anti-immigration goth girl as a meme icon, flooding timelines with fan art and sincere-sounding praise. By January 10, two X communities and a Janitor AI character bot had sprung up around her.
## Origin
Shout Out UK, a media and political literacy outfit, released Pathways in 2023 as an interactive learning package funded by Prevent, the UK Home Office's counter-radicalization program[1]. Players follow a character named Charlie through six radicalization scenarios, with Amelia introduced in scenario two as a far-right recruiter trying to convince Charlie that immigrants are stealing British jobs[4]. The game drew little attention until early January 2026, when screenshots began circulating on X alongside discussion of Pathways casting young people as potential extremists[4].

## Overview
Posts celebrate Amelia's design: purple hair, pink dress, dark sweater, and a goth e-girl look that Pathways' writers scripted alongside anti-immigration dialogue meant to code her as a cautionary villain[4]. Instead, X users treat screenshots of her recruitment pitches as sincere admiration bait, sharing frames where she lectures Charlie about immigrants taking British jobs[2].
Fan artists rework Amelia into unironic nationalist iconography, often drawing her in traditional dress or crying with gratitude when Charlie agrees to join her cause[5]. On /r/KotakuInAction, one top-voted comment asked whether Shout Out UK understood how the internet works, given they'd made 'the cute goth e-girl the racist'[3].
## How to Use
Posts typically take a Pathways screenshot of Amelia delivering her recruitment lines and caption it with earnest-sounding praise, inverting the writers' intended warning. Fan art is a common companion format, often placing Amelia in emotional scenes with Charlie or styling her as a nationalist heroine.
