# Beautiful Cat With Homophobia
An image macro series that sets photos of heterochromia-eyed cats alongside the caption "homophobia in its eyes," turning a mix-up of "heterochromia" and "homophobia" into a love-struck tag. A 2021 Reddit joke on r/aww resurfaced in June 2024 when an X user applied the line to a stray cat with mismatched eyes, after which posters started attaching the caption to anime characters and HBO's Aemond Targaryen.
## Origin
On April 3, 2021, Reddit user @NotWurrmm posted a photo of a white cat with one blue eye and one yellow eye to r/aww under the title "A cat with homophobia in its eyes ♥"[1]. The post sat as a small inside joke for over two years before anyone copied the phrasing. In early June 2024, X user @lovesickdoe revived the exact wording to describe a stray cat they had seen outside, which had one orange eye and one blue eye[2]. That version collected over 10.8 million views and more than 500,000 likes within 20 days[4].

## Overview
Posts in the series place a heart emoji next to a close-up photo of an animal, or sometimes a person, with two different-colored eyes, written as if the poster has confused "heterochromia" with "homophobia"[1][2]. The joke works because the misreading sounds sincere, so a cat with blue-and-yellow eyes is announced to have "homophobia in its eyes ♥" the way someone might call a pet star-eyed. Early posts stuck to real cats found outside or in shelters, with the line used as a love-struck compliment.
By mid-2024, the format moved past real animals and into fictional characters whose designs include mismatched eyes, including anime figures, K-pop idols wearing heterochromia-styled contacts, and HBO's one-eyed Targaryen prince[4][5]. Beautiful Cat With Homophobia keeps the exact phrasing from the Reddit original, including the trailing heart, which is part of what makes the misread sound earnest rather than hostile.
## How to Use
Posters typically combine a photo of someone or something with two different-colored eyes with the caption "a [subject] with homophobia in its eyes ♥," written as if the author mistook "heterochromia" for "homophobia." Common convention includes the heart emoji from the Reddit original and reads the line as a sincere compliment, so the format works best when the subject actually has mismatched eyes, whether a real cat, an anime character or a House of the Dragon still[5].
