# Binod
On July 15, 2020, Indian YouTube channel Slayy Point called out a commenter named Binod Tharu who posted only his first name under their videos[1]. Within three weeks the single word turned into a copypasta spamming comment sections, hit the top of Twitter India as #Binod, and by August 10 was being used by Netflix India, Paytm and Tinder in brand tweets[4].
## Origin
On July 15, 2020, Indian YouTube duo Abhyudaya Mohan and Gautami uploaded "Why Indian Comments Section is Garbage (BINOD)" to their channel Slayy Point[2]. About 30 seconds in, Abhyudaya shows a grid of comments by user Binod Tharu, each one just the word "Binod" without context[5]. Slayy Point then ran a sketch where every answer in a mock interview was also "Binod," setting up the gag other creators would carry into their own comment sections[1].
- **Platform:** YouTube (origin) / Twitter (viral spread)
- **Creator:** Slayy Point (Abhyudaya Mohan and Gautami)
- **Date:** 2020
## Overview
Posts in the Binod format typically treat the name as the only possible answer to any question, mimicking Binod Tharu's one-line replies under Slayy Point videos[1]. Variations include screenshots of dating profiles, forms and quiz shows where every field reads "Binod," plus captioned reaction images staging someone discovering the trend[5].
The humor hinges on viewers knowing Binod Tharu is a real YouTube user who comments only his name[5]. Posting the word in an unrelated setting reads as both an inside wink to Indian meme Twitter and a jab at low-effort commenters. Variants that spread fastest combined the word with Hindi punchlines or Bollywood stills, keeping the joke rooted in desi comment culture[4].
## How to Use
Posts typically present Binod as a one-word reply to a question that calls for a longer answer. Common conventions include fake quiz-show screenshots with "Binod" as every answer, forms where only the name field is filled, and captioned Bollywood stills. Users often add #Binod and tag Slayy Point.
