# Black Cat Clapping

Black Cat Clapping is an AI-generated clip of a grinning black cat with human arms slowly applauding, posted by Instagram user Aleksandr Kim in late September 2026. Within a week it jumped to TikTok as a green-screen format used to sarcastically applaud bad behavior, turning into one of fall 2026's fastest-moving reaction edits.

## Origin
On September 25th, 2026, Instagram user Aleksandr Kim (@merkurianin) posted a short comedy video in which he feeds his cat and the cat responds by grinning and clapping its human hands at him[1]. The cat itself is AI-generated and composited onto the scene, giving it the smile and arms that would become the recognizable part of the format.

The post pulled in more than 2.5 million likes in roughly a week, which seeded the clip across reposts and reaction edits[4]. The original source video on Instagram is the only confirmed first-party upload; the TikTok format that followed was built on green-screen rips of that same clip rather than new AI renders.

## Overview
Black Cat Clapping, also called the Clapping Cat Meme, is a short AI-generated clip of a black cat with a toothy human smile and jointed human arms, slowly bringing its palms together in flat, deadpan applause[1]. The uncanny mix of real cat body and clearly fake grin and hands is what makes it readable at a glance, which is why editors treat it as a green-screen asset rather than a static reaction image[2].

In use, the clapping cat stands in for a person who is applauding something awful or stupid, pure sarcastic approval aimed at the viewer or at a quoted screenshot[3]. Captions tend to set up a cringe moment and let the cat deliver the ironic ovation, with TikTokers overlaying it onto screen recordings, classroom bits, and reply-type videos[4].
