# Blue Lobster Blue Lobster is a bait-and-switch jumpscare format where a pixelated image of Haddie, a rare cotton candy lobster caught off Maine in November 2021, appears at the end of videos with an earrape rendition of Bach's 'Toccata and Fugue in D minor.' The gag took shape on iFunny in July 2022 when user Bold____Brash spliced a lobster still into a watermelon drop clip. By mid-August 2022, iFunny poster mrlobter and TikTokers had turned 'getting Lobstered' into a recurring ambush prank. ## Origin On November 5, 2021, Maine lobsterman Bill Coppersmith caught a rare cotton candy lobster in Casco Bay, a mutation estimated at roughly 1 in 100 million[1]. Coppersmith and Get Maine Lobster CEO Mark Murrell named her Haddie after his granddaughter and arranged for her to go to the Seacoast Science Center in New Hampshire instead of being sold[1]. CBS News and other outlets picked up the photo within days[2], putting the image in wide circulation before anyone turned it into a prank. Get Maine Lobster also launched a Haddie-themed NFT project called Haddie's Bay Club in March 2022[11]. iFunny gave the jumpscare its shape eight months later. On July 16, 2022, user Bold____Brash uploaded a video of a watermelon falling into a pit that cuts to the pixelated Haddie photo and distorted Bach the moment the fruit lands[4]. The audio was lifted from a May 15, 2022 iFunny clip by official_awesome showing a man playing 'Toccata and Fugue in D minor' on a flaming pipe organ[5]. - **Platform:** iFunny (format creation) / TikTok (viral spread) - **Creator:** Bold____Brash (iFunny) - **Date:** 2022 ## Overview A typical Blue Lobster post hides inside something that reads as a normal viral clip, a satisfying video, a tutorial, or a tense sports moment, until the final seconds flash to the pixelated blue crustacean while an organ chord screams at distorted volume[4]. Setup matters more than payload, so creators front-load their edits with content that keeps watchers' sound up. The reveal is often a second or two, and the music is cut from a May 2022 iFunny clip of a man performing Bach on a flaming pipe organ[5]. Blue Lobster edits sit within iFunny's 'moldy' tradition of deliberately degraded videos with cursed audio[8]. Followers of the trend handle the lobster less as a mascot and more as a punchline, with image macros joking that any meme signed by 'mrlobter' is a trap[10]. 'Getting Lobstered' became the verb for falling for one. ## How to Use Blue Lobster edits typically disguise themselves as sincere videos, often a cooking clip, satisfying slime loop, or sports moment, and end with the pixelated Haddie photo over the distorted Bach organ loop[7]. Creators commonly add a 'volume up' caption so the audio ambush lands. The core joke is the ambush, so most posts keep the setup under thirty seconds and the reveal under two[4]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Blue Lobster?
