# Burnerverse Burnerverse is slang for a loose community of anonymous Twitter accounts fixated on American college football, frat culture and D1 sports, where edgy and politically incorrect posting define the vibe. The word first appeared on X in June 2020 and reached wider notice in June 2024, when burner accounts drove an online harassment campaign against a college freshman. ## Origin Early documented use of 'burnerverse' traces to a June 12, 2020 post by X user @DirtyRafer, who called himself an 'OG' burnerverse user and positioned himself as a veteran of the anonymous Twitter scene[1]. The post did not catch on at the time, but it stands as one of the earliest discoverable mentions of the word on the platform[4]. As a portmanteau, burnerverse joins 'burner account,' meaning an anonymous throwaway social media profile, with 'universe,' pointing to the web of accounts that reply to and amplify one another[4]. - **Platform:** Twitter / X - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2020 ## Overview Posts from burnerverse accounts fixate on SEC and other Southern college programs, trading inside jokes about frat life, tailgate culture and D1 sports beef[4]. Anonymity lets posters put out politically incorrect takes and personal attacks that a public account could not survive. X user @LouSass8008 described it as a Twitter clique of guys who have never met each other in person but still bond over the running jokes[3]. Bios often lean on parody logos, like @RizNasty2point0 posting about the community in a bootleg Major League Baseball hat[2]. Self-aware jokes about being a 'burner' influencer with a couple hundred followers are part of the tone, like a Bro Explaining meme from @pigshitsonballs about reposting sports and bullying people online[7]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Burnerverse?
