# Chris Chan's Sonichu Medallion Curse Chris Chan's Sonichu Medallion Curse is an internet meme claiming that content creators who wear a gifted replica of Chris Chan's Sonichu medallion suffer career collapse or personal ruin. The theory took off in May 2024 around the arrest of streamer Nick Rekieta and quickly swept up YouTuber iDubbbz, becoming the go-to tinfoil hat explanation for any sudden online downfall. ## Origin The earliest known reference to a Sonichu curse came from X user @SpreeUlaid on February 21, 2024, who replied to an image of streamer and lawyer Nick Rekieta looking intoxicated with "The sonichu curse is real. Just ask keffals"[6]. The backstory goes back to October 14, 2023, when Rekieta hosted a Rumble stream in which he opened a mysterious package containing a cryptic note and what appeared to be a replica Sonichu medallion, which he then put on during the broadcast[7][2]. The fully formed curse meme emerged months later. On May 22, 2024, X user @FolderBloat posted a tinfoil hat Pepe laying out the theory that someone had mailed Rekieta "one of Chris-chan's real Sonichu medallions" with a letter reading "a new host has been chosen," after which Rekieta allegedly became "an alchoholic drug addict"[1]. That post, the earliest known one explicitly calling the medallion cursed, picked up over 10,000 likes in two days[5]. - **Platform:** X / YouTube (viral spread) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2024 ## Overview The joke frames Chris Chan's homemade yellow Sonichu medallion, a prop long associated with the infamous CWCki subject, as a haunted object that destroys the life of whoever wears a replica. Posts typically pair footage of a creator putting on the medallion with later clips of them drunk, arrested, or publicly imploding, often captioned with lines about the curse being "real" or a "new host" being chosen[1][2]. Most entries are tinfoil hat Pepe reactions, Better Call Saul edits, or image macros that stitch together the medallion moment with the downfall footage[3][4]. The humor leans on the absurdity of blaming a yellow Sonic-Pikachu hybrid necklace for genuinely bad behavior, while giving fans a shared folklore to explain creator meltdowns[5]. ## How to Use A typical Sonichu Medallion Curse post pairs footage or a screenshot of a creator wearing the medallion with later evidence of their downfall, captioned with a line about the curse being real or claiming a new host has been chosen[1]. Common conventions include tinfoil hat Pepes, Better Call Saul-style edits, and side-by-side image macros naming two or more supposed victims, usually Nick Rekieta and iDubbbz[3][8]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Chris Chan's Sonichu Medallion Curse?
