# Cursed Plankton Cursed Plankton, also known as Ugly Plankton or Moaning Plankton Meme, is a photoshopped horror edit of the SpongeBob SquarePants villain first posted by DeviantArt user Moopintot in April 2010[1]. The darkened image sat as creepypasta fodder for over a decade before TikToker @planktongemendo paired it with a ghostly moan in late 2024[2]. By December that year, captioned slideshow versions on TikTok passed 7 million views[7]. ## Origin On April 22, 2010, DeviantArt user Moopintot uploaded the photoshop under the title "Plenkton," darkening the character's eyes and mouth and adding grain, wrinkles and other distressed features to the official SpongeBob SquarePants art[1]. The post sat quietly for years and collected roughly 29,000 views over the next 14 years[3]. - **Platform:** DeviantArt (2010 edit) / TikTok (2024 viral spread) - **Creator:** Moopintot (DeviantArt) - **Date:** 2010 ## Overview The Cursed Plankton format relies on a single stock image: Plankton rendered with grainy black eyes and mouth, wrinkled skin and heavy shadows[1]. Creators layer short captions over the picture and almost always set it to the same ghostly moan that TikToker @planktongemendo trained viewers to expect in late 2024[2]. Captions follow a confessional pattern, naming a small daily horror like answering someone who was not talking to you or waking up seconds before an alarm goes off[6][7]. Earlier uses leaned into straight horror instead of comedy. The edit became tied to the SpongeBob creepypasta "Plankton Got Served," and YouTubers reused it inside YTP and creepypasta recap videos for over a decade before the TikTok audio trend reshaped its tone from scary to self-deprecating[4][5]. On KYM, the image is cataloged under its alternate spellings Plenkton and Ugly Plankton[3]. ## How to Use A typical post places the Plenkton image on screen with the ghostly moaning audio playing underneath and overlays a short caption describing an embarrassing, gross or minor-horror moment. Slideshows often stack several captions so the moan plays over each frame, with the humor coming from the gap between the small inconvenience named in the text and the dread of Plankton's blacked-out face[6]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Cursed Plankton?
