# Devious Reptilian Backshots Devious Reptilian Backshots is a looping tween animation of Spider-Man being yanked into a sewer by the Lizard, which went viral in March 2023 after a TikTok caption reframed the drag as something far lewder. By late March, Twitter users were quote-tweeting the GIF with jokes about kisscartoon porn ads and 'try not to cum' edits. ## Origin The source image is a static illustration by Instagram artist wens.1998, posted on November 25th, 2022, showing Spider-Man being pulled into a sewer by the Lizard[6]. An animated version was briefly posted to the artist's Twitter and deleted. On January 4th, 2023, Instagram user pixel.shadow uploaded a looping tween animation of the piece, which is the version that later went viral[7]. The sexual reading landed on January 3rd, 2023, when Twitter user @cerealbans retweeted the animation with the caption 'Ah hell nah he giving Spider-Man some FILTHY BACKSHOTS'[8]. The exact 'devious reptilian backshots' phrasing was coined by TikToker @lebdoee on March 8th, 2023, whose post of the clip pulled in more than 648,000 views within a month[1]. - **Platform:** Instagram (artwork) / TikTok (viral spread) - **Creator:** wens.1998 (original art), pixel.shadow (animation) - **Date:** 2023 ## Overview The animation itself is a short tween loop: the Lizard, Dr. Curt Connors, reaches out of a manhole and drags a struggling Spider-Man down by the waist, with the camera holding on the pose at the bottom of the loop. The joke hinges on how the framing reads if you ignore the source comic context, which is exactly what TikTok users did when the clip hit the For You page in March 2023[1]. The audio-less loop was easy to repost on any platform, so the caption did all the work. Most posts are either the plain GIF with the 'devious reptilian backshots' phrasing, or quote-tweets using the clip as a reaction to anything involving Spider-Man from behind[3]. Edits lean into the suggestion rather than depicting anything explicit, usually with onscreen captions like 'the porn ad in the bottom right corner of kisscartoon'[2] or the 'try not to cum challenge' framing seen on Twitter in mid-March[4]. The artist behind the static piece, wens.1998, said in April 2023 that third-party animators changed how people saw his drawing, which he had intended as Spider-Man fleeing the Lizard rather than anything sexual[5]. His comments gave the meme a small secondary news cycle about artist consent and remix culture. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Devious Reptilian Backshots?
