# Disappointed Cillian Murphy Jokes about Cillian Murphy's visibly bored, sad expressions during film press junkets took off after a Tumblr user shared a screenshot of a YouTube comment calling him out in July 2017. By August 2018, YouTuber Elikay Beelargio had stitched together a compilation of his zoned-out interview moments that would reach over 3.3 million views. ## Origin On July 8th, 2017, the Tumblr blog InColours posted a screenshot of a YouTube comment reading that Cillian Murphy always looks like "someone somewhere is disappointing him," paired with a six-photo grid of the actor looking miserable at press events[1]. The post gathered more than 42,000 notes. The original YouTube comment sat on an On Demand Entertainment interview with Tom Holland and Murphy promoting "In the Heart of the Sea," where Murphy appears visibly checked out beside an enthusiastic Holland[2]. The sentiment, not any single edit, is what spread, so no one meme-maker owns the format. - **Platform:** Tumblr (observation) / YouTube (compilations) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2017 ## Overview Fans point to Murphy's blank stare, slow blinks and distant half-smile during round-table interviews as evidence that whoever is sitting next to him is boring, embarrassing or disappointing him in real time[1]. A typical post picks one interview clip or press-tour photo where he looks ready to leave the room, then captions it with the observation that someone is letting him down offscreen[6]. The format works as straight observational humor rather than a template. Compilations string together clips of Murphy answering questions with one-word responses, staring at the floor during a co-star's anecdote, or reacting to a journalist's question with a tight polite grimace[4]. On TikTok, edits set those moments to melancholy audio or Peaky Blinders scores, playing up the Thomas Shelby association[7]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Disappointed Cillian Murphy?
