# Edgar Edgar, also known as the Edgar Haircut, is a high-fade bowl cut with a flat, forehead-length fringe worn largely by young Latino men across Texas and the Southwest[1]. A Puerto Rican barber's Instagram clip gave the style its name in February 2019, and by spring 2022 TikTok creators were filming POV skits of walking behind an Edgar set to YG's 'Who Do You Love'[10]. ## Origin Though the forehead-fringe look has roots in Jumano and other indigenous Texas communities centuries back, where men wore nearly identical straight bangs sometimes decorated with paint or feathers[1], the modern 'Edgar' name arrived on Instagram in early 2019[4]. On February 6, 2019, the account mlbpuertorico shared a video of San Juan barber anthonybarberpr etching Hall of Fame MLB player Edgar Martinez's name into the back of a young client's head[2]. The clip picked up roughly 8,700 views over three years and tied the baseball name to the hairstyle permanently. - **Platform:** Instagram (naming) / TikTok (viral spread) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2019 ## Overview Jokes about Edgars run on a tight set of signifiers: a short Latino kid in True Religion jeans with the signature straight-across fringe, usually accompanied by a thin mustache or chin fuzz[4]. Twitter users in 2019 cast Edgars as recurring opponents in imagined video-game boss fights, captioning photos as if players had unlocked a hidden level[3]. TikTok sharpened the format into a POV genre where creators film themselves walking behind an Edgar at a parking lot or convenience store, often with YG's 'Who Do You Love' underneath[10]. The humor sits closer to affectionate ribbing than insult, and many wearers of the cut film reply videos leaning into the joke themselves[9]. ## How to Use A typical Edgar post names someone with the cut as the subject of a joke format. Common conventions include boss-fight captions on Twitter[3], POV TikToks that film the back of an Edgar's head set to YG's 'Who Do You Love'[10], and self-aware videos where the wearer reacts to being called Edgar[9]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Edgar?
