# Fuckass Fuckass is a slang insult meaning despicable, annoying or stupid, first popularized by a dinner-table scene in the 2001 film Donnie Darko where Jake Gyllenhaal's character calls his sister one. The word drifted through Homestuck fan posts and a 2015 Tumblr cat note before Twitter users in 2023 and 2024 attached it to everything from cat loaves to winter weather. ## Origin Donnie Darko writer-director Richard Kelly placed the word in the mouth of Donnie (Jake Gyllenhaal) during a dinner-table argument where he calls his sister Elizabeth a fuckass and she tells him to "suck a fuck"[2]. Urban Dictionary users added the first written definition in 2005, directly referencing the film[9]. Homestuck readers in the 2010s traded the word in Andrew Hussie's webcomic, with a Reddit comment counting at least four appearances[3]. On September 25, 2015, Tumblr user textpostsandcats posted "my fuckass cat eats pieces of plastic and chokes on them," a note that collected over 145,000 reblogs across the following nine years[1]. - **Platform:** Film (Donnie Darko) / Tumblr and Twitter (viral spread) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2001 ## Overview As an insult, fuckass works less like a punchline and more like an intensifier people stick in front of any noun to signal mild contempt or exhaustion. Posts rarely build to a joke; the humor sits in the mismatch between the harsh word and whatever soft, dumb thing it modifies, like a cat loafing on a bed[1]. Urban Dictionary's 2005 entry defined it as a term for someone "arrogant annoying, an asshole just a complete idiot"[9]. A spin-off variant called "Fuck Ass Bob," sometimes shortened to FAB, specialized the insult toward people with blunt, neck-length, middle-parted bob haircuts[8]. That branch spread through TikTok and X alongside the standalone noun-modifier use, giving the word two parallel lives: a general-purpose expletive and a haircut-specific burn. ## How to Use Posts typically follow a simple structure. A common convention is "this fuckass [noun]" or "my fuckass [noun]," applied to a photo of a pet, a weather update or a minor annoyance. The insult often includes affection when directed at cats or the author's own habits. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Fuckass?
