# Hamster Hoodie The hamster-shaped kigurumi hood worn by Umaru Doma in Himouto! Umaru-chan! became a staple of anime fan art after the series premiered in July 2015. Within months, Pixiv artists were drawing other characters in the same hood, and Amazon was listing wearable replicas by November. ## Origin Himouto! Umaru-chan! is a manga by Sankaku Head serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump, adapted into an anime by Doga Kobo that first aired on July 9, 2015[3]. Viewers latched onto the moment Umaru shuts her apartment door and transforms into the chibi hamster-hooded form, and the hood became her visual signature within a week of broadcast. Crunchyroll reported on July 27, 2015 that a wearable version of the costume had gone on sale at the CharaHoby 2015 CS x Hobby convention in Japan, less than three weeks after the premiere[1]. - **Platform:** Himouto! Umaru-chan! anime (source) / Pixiv (fan art spread) - **Creator:** Unknown (character designed by manga author Sankaku Head; the fan art motif has no single originator) - **Date:** 2015 ## Overview Hamster Hoodie, also known as Umaru's Kigurumi, is the orange one-piece hooded robe Umaru Doma puts on inside her apartment, printed with round hamster ears and a cartoon face[3]. The costume marks her "indoor" form, where she stops performing as a flawless high school student and reverts to a chibi who eats snacks, plays games, and reads manga in a pile of wrappers. On Pixiv, fan artists place the hood on characters from other series to turn them into the same slob-at-home chibi, usually drawn next to a game controller or empty snack packaging[2]. Comparisons get made to Hestia's boob ribbon from DanMachi, where both work as a single prop that marks a character and can be grafted onto unrelated heroines in the same way. ## How to Use Fan artists typically draw the subject wearing Umaru's orange hamster hood, scrunched into chibi proportions, and parked in a mess of junk-food wrappers with a game controller, manga volume, or snack in hand. Common conventions on Pixiv include replacing Umaru's blonde hair with the subject's own, keeping the hood's cartoon hamster face intact, and framing the character inside a cluttered apartment scene[2]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Hamster Hoodie?
