# He Will Never Be Ballin'

He Will Never Be Ballin', also spelled He Will Never Ballin', started in January 2019 as a two-panel toad image that denied one toad could play basketball while showing another toad doing exactly that[1]. That template drew from the older 'He Will Never Have a Girlfriend' format and spread fast on Reddit's r/comedyheaven[2]. By late 2020, an Ace Attorney edit featuring Mario and a voiced version from Twitter user @DeadcoShopToday turned the joke into a viral hit[7].

## Origin
An unknown user combined a Cereal Guy-style 'He Will Never Have a Girlfriend' template with two toad photos, one from a 2010 Worth1000 Photoshop contest that placed a toad on a basketball court holding a ball[3]. On January 16, 2019, Instagram user nakedpopsicles posted one of the earliest known reposts, which collected over 3,000 likes across the next two years[1]. Three days later, Redditor WheresMuhMuneh shared the image to r/okbuddyretard, where it gathered over 4,400 upvotes[4].

## Overview
Posts in this series open with a Cereal Guy-style caption claiming a specific character or person will never 'be ballin'' at basketball[3]. The next frame flips the claim by showing the same subject on a court, mid dribble or holding the ball, often with the counter line 'I'm Fuckin' Ballin!'. Subjects range from Scooby Doo and Mario to Fidel Castro and Lady Dimitrescu[9][10].

Edits lean hard into visual mismatch. A toad in a jersey, a Resident Evil vampire holding a basketball or an anime judge raising an objection all deliver the same beat: setup, denial, hoop. The format sits next to the related I'm Fuckin' Ballin' catchphrase, which supplies the triumphant reversal line[3].

## How to Use
Captioned posts open with a 'He Will Never Be Ballin'' line over a sad, slouched or defeated looking subject. The payoff image shows that same subject on a basketball court, often photoshopped, with the counter line 'I'm Fuckin' Ballin!'. Common subjects include video game characters like Mario and Scooby Doo as well as pop culture figures or politicians.
