# Hold Up!! His Writing Is This Fire??? In June 2023, YouTuber RobTV posted a reaction video to Billy Joel's "Piano Man" with a thumbnail of himself wide-eyed above the caption "HOLD UP!! HIS WRITING IS THIS FIRE???" By mid-2024, X users were quote-tweeting that screenshot to mock-praise everything from ancient Assyrian complaint tablets to visual novel scripts. ## Origin On June 30, 2023, YouTuber RobTV uploaded "First Time Hearing BILLY JOEL," a reaction video to "Piano Man"[1]. The thumbnail captured him with both hands raised beside the giant all-caps caption that later became the catchphrase. According to Know Your Meme, the video reached roughly 536,400 views within its first year[4]. - **Platform:** YouTube (source thumbnail) / X (viral spread) - **Creator:** RobTV (thumbnail subject); @ettingermentum (earliest known reaction-image repost) - **Date:** 2023 ## Overview The image shows RobTV, a Black man in glasses and a Nike shirt, with both hands raised in astonishment above the all-caps caption "HOLD UP!! HIS WRITING IS THIS FIRE???"[4] His genuinely stunned face gets transplanted onto writing that was never meant to be impressive, letting posters mock-praise shitposts, obscure forum rants or ancient texts with the same reverence RobTV showed Billy Joel[2]. A typical post keeps the YouTube layout intact, with the original video title replaced to describe whatever the poster finds unexpectedly well-written[5]. Others attach the thumbnail to a quote tweet so the "fire" writing sits directly below the reaction[7]. The humor relies on the gap between RobTV's earnest reverence for a classic song and the trivial or absurd text the image is now pointed at. ## How It Spread On July 18, 2023, X user @ettingermentum tweeted a screenshot of the thumbnail with the Billy Joel video title still visible, which earned over 42,000 likes within a year[2]. RobTV himself quoted the post a day later, acknowledging the attention with a reply that reached over 360 likes[3]. On October 31, 2023, X user @sigmatic_ recaptioned the thumbnail so the video title read "First Time Hearing ASSYRIAN TABLET COMPLAINING ABOUT IMPROPER COPPER TRANSACTIONS," a reference to the famous Mesopotamian clay-tablet complaint from Ea-nasir[5]. That version earned over 3,400 likes and was later shared to r/okbuddyretard in December 2023[6]. Throughout 2024, the image kept circulating as a quote-tweet reaction. On August 25, 2024, X user @StellaNoxEclair used it to joke about writing in a lewd visual novel, with the post earning around 28,000 likes in a month[7]. ## How to Use Posters typically screenshot the thumbnail with the original YouTube title visible, then either edit the title to describe the writing they want to highlight or attach the image to a quote tweet of a screenshot. The joke works best when the writing being praised is objectively unimpressive, from a shitpost account, or wildly out of context, so the earnest shock of RobTV's expression lands as mock sincerity[5][7]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Hold Up!!
