# I Know She Be Running A McDonald's Like It's The Navy A 2019 tweet pairing a 2016 Tumblr fit pic from butch style blogger bigtallbutchstyle with a one-line caption about running a fast food store with military discipline. The joke bounced through Instagram reposts, mutated into a Twitter phrasal template by late 2021, then roared back in January 2023 when TikTok users realized the woman had an entire outfit archive on Tumblr. ## Origin On October 29, 2019, now-suspended Twitter account @pandappIes posted the first version of the meme, pairing an older Tumblr photo with the caption "i know she be running a mcdonalds like its the navy"[4]. The source photograph had been uploaded to Tumblr on March 10, 2016, by the blog bigtallbutchstyle, which belongs to the woman in the image and documents her outfits[1]. Because the original Twitter account was later suspended, the earliest surviving snapshot of the tweet comes from an Instagram repost dated December 27, 2019 that preserved the @pandappIes handle[7], with a reply from @GeorgiieeR two years later confirming the 2019 timestamp[2]. - **Platform:** Twitter (caption) / Tumblr (source photo) - **Creator:** Unknown (first posted by @pandappIes on Twitter; source photo by Tumblr blogger bigtallbutchstyle) - **Date:** 2019 ## Overview The joke's engine is a mismatch between the stern, suited pose in the original photograph and the ridiculously specific scenario the caption invents[1]. The woman stands on a porch in a tuxedo vest, pants, and dress shoes, and the single lowercase line reframes that look as the uniform of a McDonald's shift manager running morning briefings like a drill instructor[4]. Spelling matters here: the original tweet dropped the apostrophe in "its" and skipped capitalization, and later reposts preserved both as part of the texture. By late 2021 the caption split off from the image and became a phrasal template on Twitter[3]. The structure, "i know [person] be running [place] like its [institution]," got applied to K-pop idols[5], teenage boba shop employees[3], and in one widely shared edit a childhood photo of Kyle Rittenhouse in a police-style costume[6]. On TikTok, the second wave shifted focus to the woman herself rather than the original tweet, with creators building slideshow tributes to bigtallbutchstyle's Tumblr archive under captions like "the mcdonald's manager lesbian"[11]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is I Know She Be Running A McDonald's Like It's The Navy?
