# I Would Go To School If

"I Would Go To School If" is an object-labeling meme where posters stack captioned images of an ideal classroom (teacher, bus, uniform) under a declaration that they would attend school if those were the real conditions. Early examples surfaced on the subreddit /r/OkBuddyRetard in 2019 before a February 2020 post drew over 8,000 upvotes and spawned Minecraft and Wall Street themed variants.

## Origin
Early examples of the 'I would go to school if' and 'I would enjoy school if' line showed up on the subreddit /r/OkBuddyRetard, a surreal shitpost community. The earliest documented post using the format is dated August 3, 2019 and drew 370 upvotes over four years[3]. Who first assembled the phrasing stays unconfirmed, and KYM lists the exact origin as unknown[4].

## Overview
Posts typically layer four to six screenshots beneath a declarative headline, each image tagged with a classroom role (teacher, bus driver, lunch, uniform) swapped for an idealized stand-in like an anime character or a Minecraft block[1]. Earlier sincere versions presented genuine fantasy casts, while later ironic takes deliberately clashed the format with absurd or lowbrow pairings[4].

The template moved outward to workplaces, colleges and other venues the poster did not want to attend. On Instagram, @novaxeno's February 2020 post swapped every classroom fixture for a Minecraft equivalent[2]. By late 2021 the headline itself was being warped, as when Tumblr user pdfbabe switched 'school' for 'wall street' and filled the slots with cartons of vegetable and chicken stock as a visual pun on financial stocks[5].

Humor relies on the gap between the unloved institution and whatever gets labeled inside the collage. Replies and reposts often chain more entries in the same theme, so a Minecraft-coded version invites more Minecraft substitutions in the comments[6].

## How to Use
Posters pick an institution they dislike, write 'I would go to [place] if' as the headline, then paste four to six screenshots underneath labeled with roles tied to that place such as teacher, bus or uniform for a school version[1]. Common conventions include matching every substitution to a single theme (a video game, an anime, a franchise) and leaning on absurd pairings or visual puns for ironic takes[5].
