Thomas Jacob Black was born August 28, 1969 in Santa Monica, California, and picked up small television roles in the early 1980s including guest spots on Northern Exposure and The X-Files3. He hit his stride with a supporting turn in 2000's High Fidelity1.

School of Rock in 2003 turned Black into a household name and earned a Golden Globe nomination1. He later landed a second Globe nod for 2011's Bernie, playing convicted killer Bernie Tiede in Richard Linklater's dramedy1.

How It Spread

A July 2016 death hoax spread after a fake Facebook page and posts from the Tenacious D Twitter account claimed Black had passed. Twitter user @Ruthless took credit for the prank, and fans killed the rumor after spotting Black with Diplo and boarding a plane3.

Jablinski Games arrived December 21, 2018 as Black's answer to PewDiePie-style gaming content, opening with a video that pulled over 2.5 million views2. Tenacious D's four studio albums, plus the Pick of Destiny film featuring Dave Grohl as Satan4, kept his music-side meme footprint active across a decade of remixes and reaction edits.

How to Use This Meme

The Jack Black meme is typically an out-of-context screenshot or clip: Po's shocked face from Kung Fu Panda, Dewey Finn's stage antics from School of Rock, or a Tenacious D lyric drop. Common conventions pair his exaggerated expressions with captions about hype moments or dramatic overreactions.
