# Japanese Tyranno Dance Japanese Tyranno Dance is a stiff, hip-swaying move created by TikToker @gift.roppongi, who first filmed it outside a tiger-statue storefront in February 2024[1]. After a year of steady posting in Japan, English-speaking TikTokers picked up his clips in January 2025 and turned them into caption memes about gambling, debt and other everyday chaos[4]. ## Origin On February 18, 2024, Tokyo-based TikToker @gift.roppongi posted the earliest known Tyranno Dance video, filmed outside a storefront with tiger statues in the window[1]. He kept posting new clips through 2024, usually in Roppongi nightlife settings, and the move slowly built an audience in Japan before any English-language pickup[3]. There is no evidence that @gift.roppongi branded the move as the Tyranno Dance himself. English-speaking viewers coined the name in early 2025 after noticing the T-rex arm posture, and the Know Your Meme entry documents the label alongside the February 2024 clip as the origin point[3]. - **Platform:** TikTok (Japan) / TikTok (viral spread with Western audiences) - **Creator:** @gift.roppongi - **Date:** 2024 ## Overview The move itself looks like a short, nervous shuffle. @gift.roppongi hunches forward, holds his hands tight against his waist like tiny forearms, and jerks his hips side to side with no bounce, which is where the Tyrannosaurus nickname comes from[1]. He performs it in deadpan street-corner settings, often in front of Roppongi storefronts or inside empty bars and restaurants[2]. Western remixes keep the original footage untouched and layer captions over it. The joke is usually about a doomed daily habit, like gambling, drinking, or avoiding responsibilities, with the stiff little dance acting as a visual of someone cheerfully grinding through chaos[4]. Other TikTokers also film themselves mimicking the posture in public, which treats the dance as a copyable challenge rather than a reaction clip[5]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Japanese Tyranno Dance?
