# Maddy Banging On Door Maddy Banging On Door, also known as Maddy Knocking On Door, started as a screencap from the January 2022 premiere of HBO's Euphoria Season 2, showing Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie) pounding on a bathroom door that Cassie Howard and Nate Jacobs were hiding behind. Twitter user @htsvzn posted the first known edit on January 10, 2022, comparing her stance to the attic scene in Hereditary. By late January 2022, the rotated screencap turned into an exploitable template with captions calling her a planks exercise, a square root symbol and a biblically accurate angel. ## Origin Season 2 of HBO's Euphoria premiered on January 9, 2022, with a scene where Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie) bangs on a bathroom door that Cassie Howard and Nate Jacobs are hiding behind[3]. Twitter user @htsvzn posted the first known meme using the clip on January 10, 2022, comparing Maddy to the mother in Hereditary trying to break into the attic[1]. That tweet picked up around 1,900 likes over the following eighteen days[3]. The scene itself came from the show's writers and HBO production; @htsvzn created the earliest known meme edit using the footage, kicking off the format others expanded on. - **Platform:** HBO Euphoria (source) / Twitter (viral spread) - **Creator:** @htsvzn (earliest known meme edit) - **Date:** 2022 ## Overview Posters took the rotated screencap of Maddy, fists raised against the door, and dropped her into unrelated contexts where the body position carried the joke more than the Euphoria scene itself. The stance read as planks, a square root sign, a geometric shape or a horror pose depending on what caption sat above her[2][4]. Some edits kept the original frame intact with a punchline on top, while photoshops moved Maddy into other templates like Be Not Afraid and Rolls Worst Joint Ever[6][9]. Edits got more abstract through late January 2022, with self-referential captions and absurd object edits taking over from the straightforward reaction-image format. Video versions of the clip stayed in rotation on TikTok with overlay text about chasing down whoever caused a specific grievance[8]. The template worked because Maddy's rigid, forward-facing silhouette flattened into almost any shape editors wanted to make it into. ## How It Spread On January 12, 2022, Twitter user @umbillicalbaddi posted an experimental edit of the door scene captioned 'euphoria door scene but make it experimental,' earning roughly 1,400 likes over 17 days[7]. The format moved to TikTok a day later when @alfierichie overlaid text joking about hunting down whoever started a Lana Del Rey Euphoria song rumor, earning over 30,700 plays and 2,700 likes[8]. Screencap edits exploded on January 26, 2022, when @inorganic_gooch rotated the image sideways and captioned it 'me doing planks,' earning roughly 302,000 likes in two days[2]. Later the same day, @chanelnumbertwo captioned the same frame 'the square root of 16' and got about 126,400 likes[4]. Other posters got creative with template crossovers: @romansgerri referenced Interstellar for about 100,600 likes[5], @willfulchaos photoshopped Maddy into the Be Not Afraid template as a biblically accurate angel for around 43,700 likes[6], and @cun__ty turned her into a marijuana joint referencing Rolls Worst Joint Ever for over 25,700 likes[9]. On January 27, 2022, Instagram account @ninasayersapologist shared a carousel of Twitter edits that collected roughly 1,700 likes in under a day[3]. The trend also reached the /r/Euphoria subreddit, where one post using the image to spell out a name picked up over 800 likes in the same window[10]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Maddy Banging On Door?
