# Me When X Tell Me to Do Something Me When X Tell Me to Do Something / Si Patrona centers on an image macro of a young Hispanic teen saluting in a Navy JROTC uniform in front of a display cabinet. Spanish-speaking Twitter users ran with the picture under 'si patrona' captions in 2020, joking about obeying a partner. By late 2022, English posters had recaptioned it into a phrasal template, with Instagram and Tumblr edits hitting tens of thousands of likes each[1]. ## Origin The source photo shows a Hispanic teen in a Navy JROTC uniform, identifiable by his left-arm patch and left-collar device, saluting in front of a display cabinet. Its original context is unknown[3]. Twitter users had already been posting salute pictures under 'si patrona' captions in early 2020. The specific image surfaced on June 27th, 2020, when @fallingfrmhvn tweeted it with the line "'block or remove her then' si patrona 😂😂"[5]. That post picked up no engagement at the time. On August 9th, 2020, @palace_gio reposted the picture with a similar caption and drew about 90 likes over three years[6]. - **Platform:** Twitter (Spanish-speaking users) / Instagram (English viral spread) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2020 ## Overview Working as a reaction image, the saluting teen stands in for anyone agreeing to a request, usually something ridiculous or thirsty. In the Spanish version, 'si patrona' (yes boss) sets up the salute as instant submission to a girlfriend or significant other[2]. English remixes fill 'X' with anything from 'the voices' to 'a chick with tattoos and piercings'[3]. Posters mostly use the tightly cropped version of the photo, with text layered over the display cabinet behind him or placed as a caption above. Captions lean absurd or self-deprecating, playing the salute as a hyperbolic reaction to minor demands. Tumblr edits run queerer, with versions about butch lesbians and cursed amulets[4]. ## How to Use Posters typically take the cropped JROTC salute photo and add a caption reading 'me when X tells me to do something,' where X is whatever absurd authority figure they want to claim fealty to. Common fills include partners, intrusive thoughts, scary strangers, and supernatural entities[12]. The Spanish version uses 'si patrona' instead, often as a reply to a tweet about a girlfriend or significant other[2]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Me When X Tell Me to Do Something?
