# Millie Bobby Brown Is Homophobic A fake hoax campaign launched on Twitter in November 2017 falsely attributing homophobic and Islamophobic quotes to Stranger Things actor Millie Bobby Brown, spreading under the hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown. The hoax drove her off Twitter in June 2018, then resurfaced on TikTok in 2022 as a recurring Pride Month video edit called 'Millie Bobby Brown Is Calling.' ## Origin On November 17th, 2017, Twitter user @KelsFiona posted a now-deleted tweet claiming she asked Brown for a photo at an airport and that the actor pulled off her hijab and stamped on it after she refused to remove it[1]. Later that day, @JoIIyBrandon fired back at a Brown fan with what is credited as the first use of the hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown, which drew more than 15 likes[1]. Fans and skeptics quickly started circulating doctored tweets attributed to Brown containing homophobic and violent slurs. Twitter user @SANGRlAXWINE pushed back on November 18th with a post arguing the screenshots were fake because of visible pixels around the lettering, racking up over 175 likes[1]. - **Platform:** Twitter (hoax origin) / TikTok (viral revival) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2017 ## Overview The hoax works by pairing fabricated screenshots and invented anecdotes with Brown's name, usually written in a tone meant to sound like an entitled Hollywood teen. Early 2017 examples on Twitter leaned on fake stories about Brown attacking a Muslim fan in an airport and manipulated screenshots of homophobic tweets, which other users then debunked by pointing out the pixelated edges around the typed letters[1]. By 2022, the gag mutated on TikTok into 'Millie Bobby Brown Is Calling,' a CapCut template that overlays a fake incoming FaceTime from Brown over clips of gay men kissing or showing affection, cutting them off mid-moment[2]. The joke flipped the original harassment campaign into an ironic in-joke, treating Brown as a Pride Month boogeyman who personally interrupts queer content every June 1st[3]. ## How to Use The TikTok version typically overlays a still selfie of Brown as an incoming FaceTime call over footage of two men kissing, holding hands, or flirting, with a caption framing Brown as arriving at midnight on June 1st to shut Pride Month down. Common conventions include school-bus edits, beach scenes and sudden cuts to black, played straight-faced for irony. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Millie Bobby Brown Is Homophobic?
