Mr. Moseby Driving Lesson, also known as PRNDL, is a scene from the June 2005 Disney Channel episode 'Cody Goes to Camp' in which London Tipton misreads a car's automatic gear selector as 'the PRNDL' while Phill Lewis's Mr. Moseby tries to teach her to drive. A YouTube rip in July 2007 kept the clip alive, and by 2014, X and 9GAG users were captioning photos of real dashboards with London's line.

Overview

Image macros for Mr. Moseby Driving Lesson usually show the gear selector labeled P, R, N, D, L next to a line from London Tipton, or paste her quote beneath a photo of a real dashboard5. The joke sits in the gap between the formal acronym and London's childlike reading of it as one word pronounced 'prindle'3. Comic strips redraw the exchange frame by frame4, and short video edits loop the moment Phill Lewis's Mr. Moseby corrects her delivery6.

Posts referencing the scene often lean on the shared recognition of millennial Disney Channel viewers who grew up with The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, with captions insisting that the shifter will always be 'the PRNDL' regardless of what driving instructors say5.

On June 6, 2005, the Suite Life of Zack & Cody episode 'Cody Goes to Camp' aired on the Disney Channel, with Mr. Moseby (Phill Lewis) walking London Tipton (Brenda Song) through a driving lesson in which she identifies the automatic gear selector by reading its letters together1. The letters P, R, N, D and L label Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive and Low on standard automatic transmissions3.

The exchange sat quietly on cable for two years before user @xDEATHNASTYx uploaded a clip to YouTube on July 17, 2007, where it went on to collect more than 5.3 million views and 202,000 likes2.

How It Spread

Fresh attention for PRNDL arrived in August 2014. On August 10, X user @introvertsmemes posted a photo of a gear shift with the caption 'because of London Tipton I will forever call this the prndl,' reaching more than 2,000 likes and 1,200 retweets5. From there, the line migrated onto Tumblr and Reddit, where screenshots and reaction GIFs of London's delivery circulated through the mid-2010s3. On July 27, 2023, actress Mayan Lopez recreated the driving lesson alongside Phill Lewis on TikTok, with the video reaching over 9 million plays and 1.3 million likes6.
