# Murder Coordinates Murder Coordinates refers to a group of SpongeBob SquarePants image macros that casually share the supposed GPS location of a decapitated body or severed head. An iFunny user kicked off the format in November 2020 with a demotivational poster claiming a severed head sat in the toilet at an Applebee's in Onalaska, Wisconsin. By January 2021, follow-up posts had added real latitude and longitude leading to a lone house in Winthrop, Minnesota, and Google reviewers were spamming the Applebee's listing with jokes about the head. ## Origin iFunny user FreeGuy posted the earliest known example on November 17, 2020, a demotivational image of a SpongeBob fish character staring into a toilet, captioned with the claim that a severed head sat in the restroom at the Applebee's at 9364 WI-16 in Onalaska, Wisconsin[1]. The image collected only 152 smiles on iFunny over ten months, but a November 24, 2020 Tumblr repost by petits-pois-carotide gained more than 31,000 notes within the same period[2]. iFunny user azerbaijanlawngnome extended the Murder Coordinates premise on January 15, 2021 with a SpongeBob and Squidward edit telling Squidward he would find a headless body at 44.542094, -94.305717, coordinates that point to a single house in Winthrop, Minnesota[4]. No decapitation has ever been recorded at the site, and the reference has no known tie to any real crime[5]. - **Platform:** iFunny / Tumblr (viral spread) - **Creator:** iFunny user FreeGuy - **Date:** 2020 ## Overview Each Murder Coordinates post follows the same deadpan structure. A SpongeBob SquarePants screenshot, usually a fish character or Squidward being bothered by SpongeBob, delivers a flat statement about where a body or body part is sitting. The specificity, often a real street address or exact latitude and longitude, is the whole joke[1]. Readers can plug the numbers into Google Maps and see an ordinary house or restaurant, which makes the matter-of-fact tone funnier[5]. The format strips out everything a crime report usually includes. No victim name, no motive, no story, just a location and the implicit claim that something terrible is there right now[2]. Later variants held onto the SpongeBob delivery while changing the specific crime, body part, or address[6]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Murder Coordinates?
