# My Job Is Just Beach "My Job Is Just Beach" refers to a line from Ryan Gosling's Ken in the 2023 Barbie movie, taken from a clip that @DiscussingFilm posted on Twitter on July 3, 2023, where Ken explains his occupation to the other dolls[1]. Once the film reached theaters on July 21, Twitter users began replacing "beach" with their own job titles, turning Ken's deadpan admission into a template that spread through late July[5]. By July 27, @HelloKrystalWu's "My job is just… Meeting" post had earned about 20,500 likes in a day[6]. ## Origin On July 3, 2023, Twitter account @DiscussingFilm posted a clip from the then-upcoming Barbie film in which Ken, played by Ryan Gosling, tells the other dolls his occupation: "My job… is just beach"[1]. Over three weeks the video collected around 66.8 million views and 260,200 likes before the movie opened in theaters on July 21, 2023[7]. - **Platform:** Film (Barbie) / Twitter (viral spread) - **Creator:** Greta Gerwig (film); earliest known template post by @deepfates - **Date:** 2023 ## Overview Posts following the template typically show the exact screencap of Ken from the Barbie trailer alongside a caption reading "My job… is just [word]," with the final word substituted for the poster's own one-word job description[6]. The humor of My Job Is Just Beach comes from the mismatch between Ken's deadpan delivery and the realities of modern office work. Short, single-syllable summaries like "deck" (slide decks) and "Meeting" tend to work because they sound like someone resigning themselves to a career with no greater purpose[5][6]. Earlier variants used alternate images. @DocStrangelove2's July 4 quote retweet attached a photo of beach bodybuilders from Malcolm in the Middle labeled "literally me," leaning into the physical absurdity of Ken's Beach Guy occupation[2]. The format later made its way to TikTok as the My Ken's Job trend[7], with creators reading Ken's line aloud and inserting their own occupations in place of "beach." ## How to Use Take the screencap of Ken from the Barbie trailer, write "My job… is just [word]" with your own occupation plugged in where "beach" originally sat, and post it[5]. The replacement word is typically short, often a single syllable, and chosen to deflate your profession to its most tedious core: a slide-deck strategist writes "deck," a middle manager writes "Meeting"[5][6]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is My Job Is Just Beach?
