# My Subs Have Unionized
On April 29, 2019, Reddit user dennismiller2024 posted a story to /r/relationship_advice claiming his five submissive partners had delivered a formal list of demands, essentially forming a union. The thread sat quietly for three months until a July 26 Twitter screenshot sent it viral, and users then turned the title into a snowclone where "subs" was replaced with biblical figures, Neon Genesis Evangelion characters and 2020 Democratic primary candidates.
## Origin
On April 29, 2019, Reddit user dennismiller2024 posted a thread titled "My (25M) subs (23F, 26F, 22M, 28M, 28M) have unionized" to /r/relationship_advice[1]. The body described a polyamorous dominant-submissive arrangement with five partners who had approached the poster together with a written list of demands, including "Allow kissing between subs" and "Demands are only to be followed after 8 pm"[1].
The original thread was later deleted, though the full text is preserved via an archive and via a /r/copypasta repost[3]. Know Your Meme documents the post as a troll submission rather than a sincere relationship question, which fits the deadpan bureaucratic register of the demand list[4].

## Overview
The joke runs on two levels. The source Reddit thread reads like earnest advice-seeking, complete with the subreddit's standard age-and-gender tag format of "(25M) subs (23F, 26F, 22M, 28M, 28M)," and then pivots to five BDSM submissives collectively bargaining with their dom over policies like permitting kissing between subs and only enforcing demands after 8 pm[1]. Know Your Meme classifies the original thread as a trollpost rather than a real relationship question[4].
On Twitter, the title alone was the payoff, and users turned it into a snowclone by keeping the "(25M) [NOUN] (ages/genders) have unionized" scaffolding and replacing the noun with whatever they wanted[2]. Biblical figures, anime cast lists and 2020 Democratic candidates all got the same treatment, with the age-and-gender tags often adjusted for comic effect[5][8].
## How to Use
A typical post keeps the parenthetical age-and-gender tag format of the Reddit title and replaces "subs" with a group of named characters, historical figures or public personalities. Writers often tweak the ages and genders to match the referenced source material, and the humor comes from mapping a wildly unrelated group onto the structure of a BDSM labor dispute.
