# Nerd Dog

Nerd Dog, also known as Dog With Glasses, Raised Finger, Buck Teeth, is a corgi photoshopped with fake buck teeth, round glasses, and the upward-pointing finger emoji to look like a stereotypical nerd[3]. The reaction image reached viral scale in late 2022 after TikToker @badgerfart overlaid it onto a 2014 KTLA 5 earthquake broadcast[2]. By May 2023, Twitter users were posting screenshots of their own dads texting the picture to them[6].

## Origin
Three separate pieces fed into the finished meme. KTLA 5's YouTube channel uploaded footage of anchors Chris Schauble and Megan Henderson reacting to a live earthquake on March 17, 2014, with Schauble raising his finger and saying 'Earthquake. We're having an earthquake' before both ducked under the desk[7]. Over eight years later, on September 20, 2022, Redditor u/jdey4 shared the fake-buck-teeth corgi clip to r/funny, where it drew more than 31,000 upvotes[1].

The combined edit arrived on November 30, 2022, when TikToker @badgerfart published a video splicing the KTLA earthquake clip with the dog, now wearing photoshopped glasses and holding the index finger emoji aloft at the same moment Schauble raises his own hand[2]. That TikTok reached more than 4.3 million views within six months, and whether @badgerfart assembled the dog composite themselves or found it elsewhere is not documented[3].

## Overview
The base photo comes from a September 20, 2022 r/funny Reddit post by u/jdey4, which showed a corgi walking around with cheap plastic buck teeth clipped in its mouth[1]. Editors took that frame, photoshopped round white glasses over the dog's eyes, and placed the upward index-finger emoji next to its face. That look mirrors the Nerd Emoji Raising Finger template that had already gone viral in Brazil earlier that year[3].

Nerd Dog posts typically reply to someone being pedantic, offering unsolicited corrections, or stating trivia with too much seriousness. The image works like the ackchyually character or the plain nerd emoji, standing in for a stereotypical 'well, actually' response[3]. Captions often lead with the pedantic quote and place the dog underneath as the implied speaker, or paste it over a tweet being mocked[4].

## How to Use
To use Nerd Dog, pair the image with a pedantic quote, a correction, or an obvious fact stated with excessive confidence. Common captions put the quote on top and the dog image below as the implied speaker. Variants often substitute other animals, like cats or ducks, with the same glasses-plus-finger treatment, following the template teathattast collected in a March 2023 Tumblr set[8].
