# Nuclear Family Unit
Nuclear Family Unit, also known as The 2024 Nuclear Family, is a satirical object-labeling format that assigns characters from anime, games, and TV shows to over-the-top household roles like 'Beautiful Transgender Wife' and 'Dearly Adopted Daughter.' A Redditor named @kirboob posted the earliest known version in January 2022. By June 2024, the layout had moved onto Twitter/X, where fans sorted Jujutsu Kaisen and Golden Kamuy casts into their own 'nuclear family' lineups.
## Origin
On January 12, 2022, Reddit user @kirboob shared one of the first known Nuclear Family Unit images on r/JARMEDIA, listing a 'Beautiful Transgender Wife, a Loving husband, a 4'8'' Shortstack Cisgender Sidehoe and a Dearly Adopted Daughter' as the household lineup[1]. The post picked up only about 50 upvotes and four comments across the next two years, but the labeling template circulated quietly inside anime fan circles[4].

## Overview
Each Nuclear Family Unit image sorts four fictional characters into labeled slots that mock conservative talking points about the 'traditional' household. Common roles across the format include a 'Beautiful Transgender Wife,' a 'Loving Husband,' a 'Shortstack Cisgender Sidehoe,' and a 'Dearly Adopted Daughter'[1]. The humor comes from matching serious, violent, or morally gray fiction with wholesome tradwife-coded captions, so casts of cursed sorcerers or Meiji-era soldiers wind up slotted as 'male mom' or 'woke dog'[3].
The 2024 Nuclear Family revival on Twitter/X leaned into niche anime inside jokes, with each poster re-casting their favorite ensemble under the same joke template[2]. Captions almost always include at least one queer-coded role and one absurdly specific archetype like a '4'8'' Shortstack Cisgender Sidehoe,' which exaggerates certain subculture tropes while riffing on tradcon slogans[4].
## How to Use
A typical Nuclear Family Unit edit pulls a four-character screenshot or lineup from a given fandom and labels each face with a satirical tradcon-flavored role. Common conventions include at least one trans or queer-coded label, one 'husband' slot, one 'daughter' slot, and one wildcard like 'woke dog' or 'boy daughter.' Posters often title the whole image 'The 2024 Nuclear Family' to signal the format[2].
