# Peepo Peepo, also called Pepo, is a sprawling family of Discord and Twitch emotes that redraw Pepe the Frog in the crude, round-headed style of Apu Apustaja. Starting in 2017, Twitch chatters minted hundreds of variants to signal moods from cheering to crying, and by August 2018 widepeepoHappy was being used in more than 32,000 Twitch emote sets. ## Origin Peepo descends from Apu Apustaja ("Help Helper"), a poorly drawn Pepe variant that spread on the Finnish imageboard Ylilauta in Spurdo Spärde's blobby house style[4]. The emote family itself began on March 1, 2017, when pepoWant was uploaded to FrankerFaceZ as the earliest documented Pepo entry[1]. A few months later, on July 24, 2017, peepoCheer went up on BetterTTV as the earliest Peepo-spelled emote[2], and was ported to FrankerFaceZ that October[4]. - **Platform:** FrankerFaceZ / BetterTTV (viral spread on Twitch) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2017 ## Overview Each Peepo is a small, lumpy Pepe drawn in the Spurdo Spärde style, often cropped to just a face or paired with props like a mug, a sign or a webcam. Twitch chat uses them as compact feelings: peepoCheer for hype moments, peepoSad for a losing stream, widepeepoHappy for pure chat-wide joy[2][3]. Because the emotes live on FrankerFaceZ and BetterTTV, every Twitch channel curates its own set, so the same name can look slightly different from stream to stream. Variants multiplied fast. FrankerFaceZ hosts roughly 2,800 different Peepo and Pepo images, ranging from basic emotions to community-specific Hypers Peepos tied to streamer GreekGodX[4]. Streamers also commission custom Peepos for their own channels, which gives dedicated chats their own private vocabulary of frog faces to spam alongside clips, raids and donation alerts. ## How to Use To use a Peepo, Twitch viewers typically install a channel's FrankerFaceZ or BetterTTV emote set, then type the Peepo name in chat to post it as an inline image. The common convention is to pick the Peepo whose face matches the current stream moment, like peepoSad after a loss or widepeepoHappy during a hype segment, and mass-spam it in sync with other chatters[2]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Peepo?
