# PizzaCakeComic

PizzaCakeComic is a webcomic artist whose relatable comics about family and cat life went viral on Reddit in late 2021. Starting in December 2021, users on /r/ComedyNecrophilia began making satirical edits of her panels as exploitables, and the artist herself joined in on the joke, becoming one of the few original creators to embrace an ironic edit community that formed around her work.

## Origin
PizzaCakeComic began posting on June 26th, 2021, with a strip about staying optimistic during COVID-19 lockdown, published on her Tumblr-powered site pizzacakecomic.com. The post pulled only 27 notes over its first year[3]. Her Reddit debut came on September 7th, 2021, with a comic about the daily hazards of owning a cat, which cleared 1,800 upvotes on /r/comics[1].

The exploitable version of the meme began on November 23rd, 2021, when u/euratowel posted the earliest known edit of one of her comics to /r/bonehurtingjuice, a subreddit built around literal, dumbed-down rewrites of popular comics. That edit reached over 9,300 upvotes[5]. On December 20th, 2021, u/Lactose_and_Lecithin brought the format to /r/ComedyNecrophilia with another rewrite, the earliest known PizzaCakeComic edit on that subreddit[3].

## Overview
PizzaCakeComic is the pen name of a webcomic artist who draws cheerful, autobiographical strips about her husband, her cats, and the small frustrations of adult life. Her panels are polished and emotionally direct, which is exactly what made them irresistible to a very different kind of audience on Reddit[3].

The meme format pulls her original comics into /r/ComedyNecrophilia and /r/bonehurtingjuice, where redditors rewrite the dialogue to twist a wholesome punchline into something absurd, mean, or deeply dark[1]. The joke works because her art style is so earnest, so any swap in the final panel feels like a betrayal of the setup. A strip about her artistic ambitions, for example, got rewritten into a bit about Hitler being rejected from art school and climbed to the subreddit's Hall of Fame[2].

What set PizzaCakeComic apart from most people whose work gets exploitable-treatment was her reaction. Instead of asking the edits to stop, she drew a comic about discovering /r/ComedyNecrophilia and leaned into the bit, eventually posting her own self-edit to the subreddit[4].

## How to Use
Edits typically take an unaltered PizzaCakeComic panel and replace the dialogue in the final frame to flip the sincere tone into something absurd, bleak, or non sequitur. Common conventions include keeping her artwork pixel-perfect so only the swapped text does the comedic work, and often picking a strip where the original punchline is especially sweet, since the contrast powers the joke.
