# Popeyes Biscuits Popeyes Biscuits are the buttermilk side at the fried chicken chain, and online they're the running joke about how aggressively dry they are. The format spread through image macros of people being choked, YouTube no-drink challenges, and TikTok skits where creators pass out mid-bite. ## Origin The first Popeyes opened in Louisiana on June 12, 1972, and buttermilk biscuits have been a core side item ever since[3]. Early positive biscuit memes showed up around 2013, including a June 15 YouTube clip from Marcel Adams in which he eats some Popeyes, says it will 'bless your soul,' and screams while holding up a biscuit[5]. The clip pulled past 1.9 million views and inspired remixes on YouTube and Vine. The dryness joke that defines the meme today landed a year later. On September 25, 2014, FunnyJunk user CptSoapMacTavish reposted an image macro from a now-deleted tweet, with a choking photo and top text reading 'When you eat Popeyes biscuits With Nothing To Drink'[2]. That post is the earliest known meme about the biscuits being dry. - **Platform:** FunnyJunk (originally a now-deleted tweet) / YouTube and TikTok (viral spread) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2014 ## Overview Most Popeyes Biscuits memes land on one punchline: the biscuits are so dry they feel like getting choked[2]. The dominant format pairs a photo of someone being strangled with a caption like 'When you eat Popeyes biscuits with nothing to drink'[1]. NSFW variants rework the setup around a choking kink joke[7], while TikTok skits take it further with the eater's vision blurring before they can reach a drink[6]. An earlier branch of Popeyes biscuit content takes the opposite tone, with fans shrieking in delight over how good the biscuits taste[5]. Both styles still appear in Popeyes posts, but the dryness angle is what stuck as the recognizable meme[3]. ## How to Use The common Popeyes Biscuits format pairs a photo of someone being choked, strangled, or desperate for water with a caption such as 'When you eat Popeyes biscuits with no drink'[1]. Video versions typically show the eater taking a bite, reacting with exaggerated thirst, and either collapsing or passing out before they can grab a drink[6]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Popeyes Biscuits?
