# Rip Me Out The Plastic Rip Me Out The Plastic is a reveal and transition trend set to a line from Latto's 2023 song "Put It On Da Floor," where participants rip through a plastic bag covering the camera or their body as the lyric drops. The format began on Instagram in May 2023 with a Prom outfit reveal and crossed to TikTok within a week, where glam, nail and makeup creators ran it into millions of plays. ## Origin Latto released the official music video for "Put It On Da Floor" on April 24, 2023, with the track including the hook "rip me out the plastic I been acting brand new"[1]. The reveal format itself appeared on Instagram roughly a month later, when user @jovontapatton posted a video on May 20, 2023, helping a high schooler debut her Prom dress and makeup by tearing a plastic sheet in front of her as the lyric played[2]. @jovontapatton's clip gathered thousands of likes before a repost by @theshaderoom pushed it past 300,000 likes within a month, giving the format wider reach outside the original friend group[5]. Know Your Meme credits that Prom reveal as the first documented use of the lyric as a transition cue[5]. - **Platform:** Instagram (origin), TikTok (viral spread) - **Creator:** @jovontapatton - **Date:** 2023 ## Overview Participants in Rip Me Out The Plastic hold a thin plastic sheet or bag between themselves and the camera, then tear through it at the exact moment Latto raps "rip me out the plastic I been acting brand new" on "Put It On Da Floor"[1]. The pulled lyric functions as a cue for a dress, makeup, nail or set reveal, so the beat drop lines up with the big look change. Prom outfits, salon clients and glam-up transformations dominated the earliest wave on Instagram and TikTok[2]. Tone across posts stays celebratory and self-complimentary, matching the Barbie-doll "fresh out the packaging" image the lyric suggests, a reading echoed in Urban Dictionary entries that tie the phrase to doll-box aesthetics[3]. Variations include two-person setups where a friend does the tearing, failed attempts where the plastic refuses to rip, and jokey posts worried about the obvious safety issue of putting a bag over one's head[4]. ## How to Use Creators typically cue up the "rip me out the plastic" lyric from Latto's "Put It On Da Floor," hold a bag or sheet of clear plastic between the camera and the subject, and tear it at the exact moment the line hits. Common conventions include ending on a dress, hair or nail reveal, having a friend do the ripping, or playing a failed rip for comedy. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Rip Me Out The Plastic?
