# Ron DeSantis High Heels Conspiracy Theory Starting in February 2023, Democratic opposition researcher Pat Dennis argued that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis wore boots with hidden heel lifts to appear taller during his presidential run. The claim was mocked as mistaken cowboy-boot sightings at first, then picked up steam through side-by-side photos and comparison drawings. By October 2023, a Reddit sketch outlining his feet inside his boots after a Bill Maher appearance was pushing the joke back onto the front page of r/ThereWasAnAttempt. ## Origin Catalyst post: On February 13th, 2023, Democratic opposition researcher Pat Dennis posted a Twitter thread with several photos of DeSantis in black boots, writing that the governor "consistently wears high-heeled boots in order to appear taller" and comparing the move to Marco Rubio's 2016 heel-lift story[4]. Dennis is president of the Democratic group American Bridge, and he pitched the observation as a usable 2024 attack line[1]. Initial pushback: within hours, Republican commentators and Fox News contributors answered that DeSantis was simply wearing standard cowboy boots. Townhall columnist Kurt Schlichter wrote "Local Democrat discovers cowboy boots," and GOP communicator Matt Whitlock told Dennis to "touch some grass," with Fox News rounding up the dunks in a story the same week[1]. - **Platform:** Twitter (initial claim) / Reddit (viral spread) - **Creator:** Pat Dennis - **Date:** 2023 ## Overview The Ron DeSantis High Heels Conspiracy Theory is the online argument that the Florida governor, listed around 5'9" by reporters, slips elevated heels or insoles into his black cowboy boots so he looks closer to the 5'11"-plus height typical of modern American presidents[2]. Posts about it usually pair a candid photo of DeSantis next to a visibly taller figure with a caption pointing at the back of his boot, or they trace an outline of where a normal foot would actually sit inside the shoe[3]. The tone sits between serious oppo research and gag photography. Pat Dennis framed his first thread as a strategic warning that height-shaming had already worked on Marco Rubio in 2016[1], while most follow-up posts leaned into Rapture jokes, children's-table jokes and visual gags about hidden lifts[3]. A 2022 Vanity Fair profile had already noted that DeSantis's wife Casey picked out the cowboy boots as part of a wardrobe refresh after his first governor's win, which later became ammunition for people who argued the footwear choice was deliberate styling rather than regional taste[5]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Ron DeSantis High Heels Conspiracy Theory?
