# Serbian Dancing Lady Serbian Dancing Lady refers to viral footage and urban legends about a woman in Belgrade who allegedly dances in traditional folk dress at night before chasing passers-by with a knife. The story first broke on a Serbian news site in September 2019 and lay mostly dormant until TikTokers rediscovered it in late 2022, pushing new clips past 50 million views by February 2023. ## Origin On September 22, 2019, the Serbian tabloid site Serbia Today (sd.rs) published an article headlined around "horror scenes in Belgrade," quoting an anonymous witness who said a woman in national dress had been dancing a kolo in the middle of the night before pulling a knife on bystanders[1]. The outlet included two photos said to be circulating on social media and uploaded a short clip to its YouTube channel the same day, where the footage sat as the first-known video of the figure[2]. The original uploader of the raw clip is not confirmed, and no witness has gone on record by name, so the actual person in the costume stays anonymous[1]. Early reactions split between readers calling it staged folklore marketing and readers treating it as a genuine sighting, a divide that followed the video onto every platform it later reached[3]. - **Platform:** YouTube (Serbia Today, 2019) / TikTok (viral spread, 2022-2023) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2019 ## Overview Serbian Dancing Lady centers on grainy nighttime clips of a woman in traditional Serbian costume performing kolo-style folk steps on empty Belgrade streets, then lunging at anyone who films her with what viewers describe as a knife[1]. Whether she is a real person, a prank actor or an outright hoax is still argued in the comments on every repost, which is a big part of why the clips keep traveling[3]. Typical posts frame the footage as creepypasta: a shaky phone recording, a shadowy figure in white robes, slow spinning that suddenly breaks into a run at the camera[6]. Later TikTok edits lean harder into the horror angle with jump cuts, distorted audio and captions warning viewers not to go out alone in Serbia[7]. Discussion videos from podcasters and YouTubers treat the clips the same way audiences once treated Slender Man or the Momo hoax, somewhere between regional folklore and staged scare content[5]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Serbian Dancing Lady?
