# Sex 2 Sex 2 is a running joke treating sex as if it had a video game or film sequel, with fans asking when the follow-up will drop. The format bounced around Twitter for years before a Sonic Says edit in 2017 pushed it viral, then came back in late 2019 on /r/okbuddyretard as a fake highly anticipated media release. ## Origin The earliest documented Sex 2 joke came from Twitter user @beard_tribe on June 19th, 2013, though the tweet went nowhere at the time[1]. A handful of similar one-liners appeared over the next few years, and on August 10th, 2016, @SpeedySPCFan posted a bit arguing that a 1996 video game literally titled Sex 2 counted as a canonical sequel, which pulled around 170 retweets[4]. The format broke containment through a Sonic Says parody made before October 2nd, 2017, where the hedgehog warns kids that sex is bad because there is no sex 2. Twitter user @mstaint reposted the gag on October 3rd, 2017 and racked up over 2,000 retweets and 4,500 likes, and Redditor GrandpaDankHead carried it to /r/memes two days later[2][4]. - **Platform:** Twitter (early jokes) / Reddit (viral spread) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2013 ## Overview The joke works by treating a biological act like a franchise entry, so posts ask about release dates, delays, review scores, platform availability and preorder bonuses for Sex 2[4]. Formats range from Sonic Says PSAs and demotivational posters to fake Gamestop receipts and movie theater skits, with the humor sitting in how straight-faced the premise is played[3]. The /r/okbuddyretard wave fixed the format as hype posting, where users roleplay as fans waiting for Sex 2 like it were a Rockstar or Marvel release[9]. A separate strand imagines actor Don Cheadle announcing development of the sequel, which fed into the 2019 explosion on the subreddit[4]. By 2020 and 2021 the bit crossed into Angry Birds and Ben Shapiro crossover jokes about going to see Sex 2 in theaters[5]. ## How to Use The common convention is to write about Sex 2 as if it were a real upcoming video game or film, often with release windows, delays, review embargoes or preorder complaints. Posts typically avoid any sexual content and lean entirely on the straight-faced hype framing, which is where the irony lives[9]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Sex 2?
