# Shadow Wizard Money Gang Shadow Wizard Money Gang is a producer tag from Dj Smokey heard at the start of Joeyy's December 2022 song "Gout," where a deep voice intones "shadow wizard money gang, we love casting spells." The audio took off in January 2023 when TikTokers paired it with a clip of a creator declaring "masturbation is a form of witchcraft," and by May 2023 Twitter artists were drawing hooded, bejeweled wizards as the gang's visual identity. ## Origin Joeyy released the music video for "Gout" on YouTube on December 2nd, 2022, with Dj Smokey's "shadow wizard money gang, we love casting spells. This song is sponsored by the shadow government" tag opening the track[1][2]. Within a month the video pulled over 267,000 views[2]. The tag itself was created by Canadian producer Louka Tessier, who permits Smokey to use it on his releases[2]. Lip-dub edits of the "Gout" intro started appearing on TikTok that same month, with one early example from @dudegetoffmylawn on December 22nd, 2022 racking up more than 152,000 views in its first month[6]. - **Platform:** YouTube (source audio) / TikTok (viral spread) - **Creator:** Louka Tessier (producer tag), Dj Smokey (popularized) - **Date:** 2022 ## Overview The joke is almost entirely built from one deep-voiced line: "shadow wizard money gang, we love casting spells." It originates as a producer tag Dj Smokey drops at the top of Joeyy's track "Gout," sitting in the same bag as the "legalize nuclear bombs" tag the two artists also popularized[1][2]. The tag actually belongs to Canadian producer Louka Tessier, who lets Smokey borrow it[2]. On TikTok, the audio usually works as a two-part gag. A clip plays of someone making a wild claim about witchcraft, most often TikToker @thatjesusgeneration insisting that "masturbation is a form of witchcraft," and then the beat drops into the tag while the creator lip-dubs the line, sometimes cutting to images of wizards[3]. By May 2023 the sound jumped formats into visual fan art on Twitter, where artists depicted the "gang" as hooded wizards in purple robes stacked with jewelry, their faces hidden in shadow under the hood[4][5]. ## How It Spread The TikTok wave kicked off on January 1st, 2023, when @mike_literus690 opened a video with @thatjesusgeneration's "masturbation is a form of witchcraft" line, then lip-dubbed the Dj Smokey tag; the clip pulled past 928,000 views in two weeks[3]. The reupload of the @thatjesusgeneration clip by @dreamsnpoetry from November 22nd, 2022 served as the raw audio ingredient and racked up over 190,000 views in two months[2]. Copycats flooded the For You page using the same two-beat setup. @gremlino posted a version on January 8th, 2023 that pushed past 1.2 million views in a week, and @infernal.alchemy followed on January 11th with a similar edit that reached over 1.3 million views in six days[7][8]. The audio-only joke mutated into a visual one on May 23rd, 2023, when Twitter user @RE_Thinkin shared a drawing by @jarlungus of a hooded wizard in a purple robe wearing jewelry, captioned "shadow wizard money gang"[4]. The piece picked up over 2,000 retweets and 16,800 likes in ten days[2]. Other artists expanded the design, and on June 1st, 2023 @Avovet3D posted a 3D render of the character that earned over 4,200 retweets and 32,100 likes within a day[2]. ## How to Use A typical post opens with an unrelated clip of someone making an outlandish statement about magic, demons or witchcraft, then cuts to the "shadow wizard money gang" audio drop while the creator mouths the line, often with wizard imagery layered over the video[3]. On Twitter the format is static instead: artists draw a hooded figure in a purple or dark robe, face obscured by shadow, loaded with rings and chains, and caption the piece with the phrase[4]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Shadow Wizard Money Gang?
