# Sheldon Holding a Laptop Sheldon Holding a Laptop is a photo of Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory, standing in an empty room about to press a key on a black laptop. The 2006 stock still fueled ironic Bazinga posts on 4chan and Tumblr in the early 2010s before TikTok users set it to a slowed version of 50 Cent's 'Candy Shop' in February 2024. ## Origin On December 31st, 2006, a promotional stock photo of Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper was shot for The Big Bang Theory and uploaded to Alamy[1]. The frame shows him alone in a sparse room, holding a black laptop with one finger raised above the keyboard. Fan edits using the picture appeared on 4chan and Tumblr by 2012, played as ironic Bazinga jokes, though the original editor is unconfirmed[3]. User Fridge submitted the earliest known examples to the Know Your Meme database on December 28th, 2012[3]. - **Platform:** 4chan / Tumblr (early ironic use), TikTok (2024 viral spread) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2012 ## Overview Posts typically open with a slow fade from black that reveals Sheldon mid-keypress, aping the pacing of Duke Dennis 'Hard' Memes[3]. Early iterations on 4chan and Tumblr sat the still under absurdist Bazinga captions in Impact font, selling the gag through Jim Parsons' straight-faced delivery[3]. The joke lands because he looks like he is about to deploy some world-ending program, while the caption usually names a mundane or petty act. By early 2024, TikTok edits had added a slowed version of 50 Cent's 'Candy Shop' as the soundtrack, with the fade timed to the first bar[2]. Captions on these edits tend to describe a chaotic act, sometimes written upside-down, that the keypress will supposedly trigger[7]. The payoff is pure anticlimax, since nothing ever happens past the fade. ## How to Use To make one, start with a black screen and slowly fade in the Sheldon still over a slowed remix of 50 Cent's 'Candy Shop'[8]. Common conventions include an Impact-style caption describing something petty or chaotic the keypress will supposedly trigger, often written upside-down for extra absurdity[2]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Sheldon Holding a Laptop?
