# SpongeBob In Silent Hill SpongeBob In Silent Hill, also known as Aw Hell Naw Spunch Bob, is an image macro that places a worried-looking SpongeBob inside the decaying second-floor hallway of Silent Hill 2's Otherworld Hotel. X user @anglwntr first posted the edit in December 2020 with Spunch Bob captions, and by July 2023 Twitter users were running it with 'X's subplot' punchlines about side characters from iCarly and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. ## Origin SpongeBob SquarePants episode 'Home Sweet Pineapple' aired on August 14, 1999 and included the still of SpongeBob sitting on the ground looking worried that would later anchor the meme[4]. The hallway comes from Silent Hill 2, released by Konami in 2001. On December 19, 2020, X user @anglwntr posted the first known edit that spliced the SpongeBob still into the Otherworld Hotel's second-floor corridor[1]. One week later, on December 26, 2020, iFunny user @BobertTheTomato_2018 reposted it with the caption 'aw hell nae spunch bob took 40 benadryls,' which collected over 30,000 smiles across the next two years[3]. - **Platform:** X (origin) / Twitter (viral spread) - **Creator:** @anglwntr - **Date:** 2020 ## Overview The composite takes a 1999 'Home Sweet Pineapple' still of SpongeBob seated on the ground looking anxious, and inserts him into the warped corridor from Konami's 2001 survival horror sequel[1]. Most posts suggest the cartoon is seeing something far darker than his show's usual plot, with the rusted walls and buzzing fluorescents of the Otherworld Hotel doing the comedic heavy lifting. The earliest viral caption, 'aw hell naw spunch bob took 40 benadryls,' tied the picture to the Spunch Bob mistranslation meme and read SpongeBob's expression as first-person Benadryl delirium[3]. By mid-2023, posters had moved to the 'X's subplot' format, where the main cast's cheerful problem appears above the image and a named side character's grim storyline sits below[2]. ## How to Use Posts typically use a two-line caption over the SpongeBob In Silent Hill image. The top line states the main cast's upbeat conflict, and the lower line, often reading something like 'X's subplot:', names the side character wandering through psychological horror below[2]. Older posts use the 'aw hell naw spunch bob took 40 benadryls' caption instead to lean into the Spunch Bob mistranslation angle[3]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is SpongeBob In Silent Hill?
