# Stilgar (Dune Character) After Dune: Part Two premiered in February 2024, Javier Bardem's wide-eyed Fremen leader Stilgar became a running joke on X about believers who think everything their chosen one does is divine proof. By March 2024, X and Reddit users were slapping his staring GIF onto scenarios like resetting a Wi-Fi router, with the catchphrase "As it was written" tagged on top. ## Origin Stilgar first appeared in Frank Herbert's 1965 Dune novel, with Everett McGill playing him in David Lynch's 1984 adaptation and Javier Bardem taking the role in Villeneuve's 2021 Dune and its 2024 sequel[2]. The staring image people now meme comes from Bardem's expanded Part Two performance, and an early version of it circulated in a June 2023 trailer for the film[1]. After Dune: Part Two opened in February 2024, X user @zach_goins posted the first widely circulated Stilgar joke on February 25th, 2024, pairing a video of a woman shouting "Yeah!" with the caption "Stilgar watching Paul Muad'Dib Atreides do literally anything in Dune 2," which drew over 4,400 likes in a week[3]. - **Platform:** X (Twitter) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2024 ## Overview Stilgar (Dune Character) memes use a still and a GIF of Javier Bardem gazing past the camera as the Fremen leader, lifted from Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two[2]. The joke sits on his unshakable belief that Paul Atreides is the prophesied Lisan al Gaib, so posters cast him as a true believer who treats the most ordinary act as miraculous[3]. A typical post pairs the staring image with a caption describing something trivial, like Paul performing a card trick or fixing a wireless router, and often tags it with the in-film line "As it was written"[4]. The format overlaps with X slang about devoted followers, and users began calling Stilgar one of the biggest glazers around[5]. The visual works because Bardem plays the stare completely straight in the film, which makes any dumb punchline underneath feel sincere. ## How to Use Posters typically drop the staring GIF or still over a caption describing a mundane task, with Paul Atreides doing something unimpressive and Stilgar reacting as if he just witnessed scripture. Common conventions include the phrase "As it was written," references to the Lisan al Gaib prophecy, or framing Stilgar's reaction as "glazing" an undeserving figure[5]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Stilgar (Dune Character)?
