# Swiss Fan At 87' And 91' On June 28th, 2021, ESPN cameras at the Euro 2020 round of 16 caught the same Swiss supporter twice: once clutching his face in despair at the 87th minute, then shirtless and screaming after Switzerland's last-gasp equalizer against France. Within hours, Twitter users were posting the two frames side by side as a two-panel reaction format for emotional whiplash. ## Origin On June 28th, 2021, Switzerland and France met in the round of 16 at the delayed Euro 2020 tournament. France led 3 to 1 late in the second half, and at the 87th minute ESPN's broadcast cut to a Swiss supporter in the stands with his head in his hands. Switzerland pulled a goal back and then equalized in the 90th minute through Mario Gavranovic, and the same camera returned to the same supporter, now bare-chested and roaring. Switzerland went on to win on penalties after extra time[5]. The side-by-side comparison was posted on Twitter the same day by multiple accounts, including @timolsky, whose version drew more than 2,900 retweets and 17,000 likes[1]. KYM dates the format to this match and the posts around it[5]. - **Platform:** ESPN broadcast / Twitter (viral spread) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2021 ## Overview Swiss Fan At 87' And 91' pairs two broadcast stills of the same supporter minutes apart. In the first frame he is slumped and holding his head as Switzerland trail France 3 to 1; in the second he is shirtless, mouth wide open, screaming in celebration after the equalizer that forces extra time[1]. The joke lives in the gap between the two moods and the fact that one person provides both panels. As a template, the pair is used for any before and after swing: a feared outcome versus the relief that follows, a mundane dread versus a payoff. LADBible put the two images under the caption 'When your mum says you're having pizza for tea,' using the agony frame for the wait and the triumph frame for the arrival[2]. Reddit's /r/MemeEconomy flagged it the same night as a format worth investing in[3]. The subject was later identified by Swiss outlet Look as Luca Loutenbach, which added a name to a face that most posters only knew as 'that guy'[4]. Because the two frames come from live sports coverage of a specific match, the meme is still read as a snapshot of that comeback rather than a generic rage-to-joy template. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Swiss Fan At 87' And 91'?
