# That One X Who Don't Play About X On March 1, 2014, Twitter user Pyramidology captioned a photo of a young Black man turning around in church with 'That one nigga in church who don't play about God,' and the image floated as a niche macro for years. In late December 2021, @beckgoogle's 'that one girl in rehab who don't play about lil peep' variant hit roughly 24,700 likes, launching the phrasal template into heavy rotation. Within days, posters subbed in a Jennifer Lawrence still from Don't Look Up to joke about Karl Marx stans in economics class. ## Origin On March 1, 2014, Twitter user Pyramidology posted a photo of a young Black man turning around in church with the caption 'That one nigga in church who don't play about God..' [1]. The tweet picked up 17 likes and 34 retweets at the time, modest numbers for a post that would later turn into a widely-used template [5]. In the years that followed, the image spread as a standalone macro to sites like Imgur, where a low-quality, heavily compressed copy nicknamed the 'moldy' version became the standard reupload [2]. - **Platform:** Twitter (2014 origin) / Twitter (2021 viral spread) - **Creator:** Pyramidology (Twitter) - **Date:** 2014 ## Overview Each post pairs a candid photo of a person glaring or turning around with a caption following the formula 'That one [type of person] in [place] who don't play about [subject].' The subject slot is typically filled by a musician, author, or political figure the pictured person is implied to defend aggressively [5]. Pyramidology's 2014 photo of a young Black man in church anchored the format for seven years before the template exploded [1]. By late 2021, posters started subbing in other faces whose expressions matched the same 'will fight you about my fave' energy. Jennifer Lawrence's wide-eyed stare from Don't Look Up became a popular alternative image [9]. Posts hit hardest when the named subject has a devoted fandom, like Lil Peep listeners in rehab or Karl Marx readers in economics [4]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is That One X Who Don't Play About X?
