# That Wine Guy That Wine Guy is a Twitter gimmick account that told the surreal story of a red-wine-obsessed man through heavily filtered selfies and stock photos of wine pours. Running from @thatwineguy68, the saga unfolded across January and February 2021 and ended with the character sealing himself inside a wine barrel to become wine. By March 2023, animator Dream Puzzles released a YouTube music video retelling the character's final arc. ## Origin The first @thatwineguy68 post went up on January 25, 2021, pairing a filtered photo of the account's smiling persona in his car with a stock image of a wine pour and a short message declaring love for red wine[1]. That opening tweet set the formula nearly every later post repeated, right down to the hashtag stack and the stock photo. According to Know Your Meme, the first tweet collected around 160 reposts and 330 likes in its first three years[4]. - **Platform:** X / Twitter - **Creator:** @thatwineguy68 - **Date:** 2021 ## Overview Every post from @thatwineguy68 followed an almost identical template: a smiling, heavily color-corrected photograph of a middle-aged man seated in a car next to a generic stock image of red wine being poured, a short earnest caption, and a stack of hashtags like #wine, #redwine and inventive wine puns[1]. The character's voice stayed sincere throughout, as if the account genuinely belonged to someone who had just discovered Twitter and wanted to tell the world about his favorite drink[4]. What tipped the gimmick into surreal territory was its continuity. Rather than posting disconnected wine jokes, @thatwineguy68 traced a single storyline across weeks: a divorce from a woman named Melissa, a sexuality awakening, recurring wine dreams, and finally the character's conversion into wine itself inside a sealed barrel[3]. That deadpan mix of sincere wine-dad aesthetics with slow-escalating body horror is what gave the account its appeal and inspired later parodies[6]. ## How to Use Imitators typically copy the original template rather than invent new angles: a filtered selfie, a stock image of a red wine pour, a short earnest caption about loving wine, and a stack of wine-themed hashtags such as #wine or #redwine. The joke lands when the sincerity of the voice sits awkwardly next to the strangeness of the story being told[1]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is That Wine Guy?
