# The Hulk GIF
The Hulk GIF is an NSFW animated clip that splices a scene from 2012's The Avengers, where Captain America tells the Hulk to 'smash,' with a hardcore pornographic cut. Posted to 4chan and Reddit in early 2013, the edit turned a straight-faced superhero beat into one of the enduring shock GIFs of the Reddit NSFW era.
## Origin
The source footage comes from the climactic Battle of New York in The Avengers, which premiered on April 11th, 2012, and included the now-memed exchange where Captain America instructs the Hulk to 'Hulk, smash'[2]. The edit itself first surfaced publicly on March 3rd, 2013, when a Reddit post titled 'Hulk SMASH' was submitted to /r/WTF, showing the Hulk eyeing Black Widow before a hard cut to pornographic footage[1].
In the comments of that /r/WTF thread, user QuatrMaster claimed authorship and linked to an earlier 4chan post of the same GIF, though that 4chan thread has since been deleted and the original artist cannot be independently verified[5]. Because of that, QuatrMaster is best treated as the earliest known poster rather than a confirmed creator.

## Overview
The Hulk GIF is a short NSFW edit that cuts from a moment in The Avengers (2012), where the Hulk leers at Black Widow after Captain America barks the order to 'smash,' straight into a hardcore anal sex clip[1]. The punchline is purely in the splice: the straight superhero dialogue reframes the explicit footage as the Hulk literally following orders, which is why the GIF spread fastest on shock-focused subreddits rather than Marvel fan spaces[3].
The format is almost always shared as the original two-shot cut, but tamer parody versions circulated too, swapping the porn clip for green-dyed crowd footage or stacks of plastic containers labeled with superhero stickers[4][5]. The joke only works because the setup footage is left completely intact, which is also why the GIF became a reference point whenever Marvel fans joke about Bruce Banner being told to 'smash.'
## How to Use
The Hulk GIF is typically shared as a one-shot reply, usually to any post or comment where someone writes 'smash,' asks the Hulk to do something, or sets up a Marvel-adjacent innuendo. It is almost never recut; the humor depends on the original edit's exact timing, so most derivatives are visual parodies that keep the Avengers setup frame and swap only the second clip for a safe-for-work payoff[4].
