# The Lorax Leaving A scene from the 2012 animated film The Lorax, in which the title character floats into the sky after sending the forest animals away, became a TikTok editing template in April 2023. Creators label the walking animals as a group abandoning something, then show the Lorax ascending with a caption like 'the Lorax leaving.' By late April 2023, versions set to ROAR's 'Christmas Kids' were clearing millions of views on TikTok. ## Origin In the 2012 adaptation of Dr. Seuss's The Lorax, directed by Chris Renaud, the Lorax sends the valley's native animals away after the Once-ler's greed strips the land, then floats skyward in silence[1]. The scene later circulated on YouTube as a standalone clip that TikTok editors sampled directly[1]. On April 15th, 2023, TikTok user @agentmangoman posted the earliest documented edit, captioned 'Pov you took the joke too far,' with the animals labeled 'everyone getting mad at you,' the Once-ler's hat removal labeled 'realizing it wasn't that funny,' and the Lorax tagged 'the Lorax leaving' as he lifts off[2]. The clip was set to ROAR's 'Christmas Kids' and pulled more than four million views inside a week[2]. - **Platform:** TikTok - **Creator:** @agentmangoman (earliest known meme edit) - **Date:** 2023 ## Overview The Lorax Leaving edits take the brief sequence near the end of the 2012 Illumination film where the Lorax ushers the Bar-ba-loots, Humming-Fish and Swomee-Swans out of the Truffula valley, then lifts off through a hole in the clouds[1]. TikTok creators overlay object labels on each shuffling animal to represent people walking out on a situation, then land the joke on the Lorax himself rising away with a tag such as 'the Lorax leaving'[2]. Most edits run under 15 seconds and ride the opening of ROAR's 2016 song 'Christmas Kids,' with the lyric swell timed to the Lorax's ascent[3]. The Once-ler's hat removal, which happens between the animals walking and the Lorax floating up, is often used as a middle beat labeled with the moment of realization or regret[1]. Captions skew self-deprecating, aimed at a joke that bombed, a friend group drifting apart, or a fandom souring on a creator[4]. ## How to Use To make a version, grab the departure clip from the 2012 film and sync it to the intro of 'Christmas Kids' by ROAR. Label the walking animals as the group abandoning something, use the Once-ler's hat removal as a middle beat for a realization, and tag the floating Lorax with 'the Lorax leaving' plus whatever final verdict fits. Common conventions include petty interpersonal setups, fandom disputes and work frustrations. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is The Lorax Leaving?
