# This Is the Taste of a Liar "This Is the Taste of a Liar!" is a quote from the 1996 manga JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Vento Aureo, delivered by Bruno Buccellati after he licks sweat off Giorno Giovanna's cheek to expose his dishonesty. The scene drew parody edits as early as 2007 and exploded on Reddit in 2019, becoming a signature image macro of r/ShitPostCrusaders. ## Origin The scene first appeared in Chapter 443, "Bucciarati Is Coming, Part 1," of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Vento Aureo, published on January 10, 1996[1]. In the chapter, Buccellati questions Giorno about the fate of a gangster named Leaky-Eye Luca; Giorno denies involvement while unknowingly clutching Luca's eye, and his nervous sweat gives him away when Buccellati licks his cheek[2]. The anime adaptation's first episode, "Gold Experience," aired on July 5, 2018, and reanimated the moment, pushing it in front of a much larger audience[5]. - **Platform:** JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga (source); Reddit (viral spread) - **Creator:** Hirohiko Araki (source scene); Unknown (meme format) - **Date:** 1996 ## Overview This Is the Taste of a Liar is an image macro built around a single panel from Hirohiko Araki's JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Vento Aureo, in which the character Bruno Buccellati licks sweat off Giorno Giovanna's face and declares the taste belongs to a liar[1]. The format works as a reaction image for calling out dishonesty: edits typically swap Giorno's face for a politician, celebrity, cartoon character or fandom in-joke while leaving Bruno's smug tongue-out pose intact[2]. The appeal rides on how absurd the panel is on its own. A grown man tasting another man's sweat as interrogation reads as both deeply strange and unmistakably JoJo, which is why early edits treated it as a universal licker template long before the series had an anime adaptation[3]. Later edits circulating on r/ShitPostCrusaders leaned harder into the character pairing itself, with Bruno outing other JoJo cast members as liars[4]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is This Is the Taste of a Liar?
