# U R Not a Vibe Bro
U R Not a Vibe Bro, also known as You're Not a Vibe, is a catchphrase that spun out of an Instagram Story mocking a shirtless man reading a book in his apartment window. The caption first circulated in early 2024, and by fall 2024 the quip was Twitter's go-to roast of anyone caught staging coolness in public. By October 2024, X users were pasting it over Aubrey Plaza reading courtside at a WNBA game.
## Origin
Instagram user @thedomsolo originally posted the Story photographing a neighbor across the way, with white text reading 'This typa shit piss me off for no reason lmao / U r not a vibe bro 😆😆'[3]. On March 31, 2024, @wormtriip shared a screenshot of the Story to their feed, where it collected roughly 5,200 likes over seven months[1]. One day later, repost account @child_services_ reposted the image, and it gathered over 39,500 likes within six months[2].

## Overview
Posts carrying the line typically quote-tweet or reply to someone who looks like they're staging an aesthetic, often a reader in public, a concertgoer filming on retro tech, or any photo that reads as self-conscious cool[6]. The image itself shows a shirtless guy in a window with a book and a mug of coffee, and cropped versions trim the longer Instagram Story text down to just the punchline 'U r not a vibe bro 😆😆'[9].
Writers also use the phrase on its own without the image, substituting the words into any dunk about performative behavior[8]. Twitter users adopted both the original 'U r not a vibe bro' spelling and the softer 'You're not a vibe' variant, with the laughing emoji often attached to signal the dunk is lighthearted[7].
## How to Use
To use the format, quote-tweet or reply to a post where someone appears to be performing an aesthetic, whether reading in public, filming on vintage gear, or posing with a prop, and attach the window-guy image or the phrase on its own. Posts often keep the '😆😆' emoji from the original Story caption to signal the dunk is a joke.
