# Ugly Sonic Ugly Sonic is the nickname for the original CGI design of Sonic revealed in Paramount's April 2019 Sonic the Hedgehog trailer, whose human teeth and small eyes drew fan outrage so loud the studio delayed the film to redo the character. The discarded design resurfaced in May 2022 as a cameo in Disney's Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers, which officially named him Ugly Sonic. ## Origin On March 4, 2019, a Hamagami/Carrol film style guide leaked online with the first finished images of Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog, showing the model that would later be called Ugly Sonic[3]. The reveal went viral on April 30, 2019 when KinoCheck's upload of the first full trailer gathered tens of millions of views alongside a loud fan revolt against the character design[1]. Three days later, director Jeff Fowler tweeted that the design would be redone in response to the backlash, delaying the film's release to 2020[2]. - **Platform:** YouTube (viral trailer) / Twitter (meme spread) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2019 ## Overview Most Ugly Sonic images set the scrapped design next to the redesigned movie version, with the joke sitting in the gap between what Paramount showed in April 2019 and what fans eventually got in theaters[1]. Edits using the Look How They Massacred My Boy template circulated in the first week after the trailer, like a Nerd Trash Facebook post from April 30, 2019 that cast fans as the horrified Al Pacino[7]. His teeth, which are human instead of hedgehog, carried most of the jokes. A later round of formats arrived in May 2022 after Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers used the design as a convention has-been, with captions playing the cameo as either a horror reveal or a redemption arc for the character[3]. ## How to Use Common versions place the April 2019 Sonic next to the redesigned version to show the contrast, or screenshot the Chip 'N Dale cameo for reaction captions. Edits often zoom in on his teeth, which the film itself does for a visual gag[3]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Ugly Sonic?
