# Vegeta Reading Vegeta Reading is a piece of Dragon Ball fan art by artist WhirlyDoodle depicting the Saiyan prince in a suit and glasses, leaning against library shelves with a book in hand. First shared online in mid-2023, the illustration became a TikTok image macro in early 2024, where creators captioned slow fade-in edits with jokes about studying, intelligence, and a mysterious 'method.' ## Origin The underlying artwork was created by Instagram and X artist WhirlyDoodle (@whirlydoodle_) as a private commission for X user @AvieAwesome in 2023[2]. On July 12th, 2023, X user @hoodmonogatari posted a cropped, low-quality version of the drawing with the caption 'Do you want the method?,' which stands as the earliest documented appearance of the image in public[1]. The post gathered 197 likes over the following year[1]. On July 28th, 2023, WhirlyDoodle reposted the full, high-resolution version to Instagram, noting in the caption that they were resharing it because 'the meme version has been making the rounds'[2]. That post picked up more than 1,200 likes within a year and confirmed WhirlyDoodle as the artist behind what was already circulating as a reaction image[3]. - **Platform:** Twitter/X (origin), TikTok (viral spread) - **Creator:** WhirlyDoodle - **Date:** 2023 ## Overview Vegeta Reading centers on a single commissioned illustration by artist WhirlyDoodle showing the Dragon Ball antagonist in formal wear, holding an open book while making direct eye contact with the viewer[2]. The piece was originally drawn for X user @AvieAwesome before escaping into general meme circulation, where its stiff posture and smug stare lent themselves to captions about secret knowledge and academic smugness[2]. On TikTok, the typical post is a slow fade-in or photo slideshow where the image gradually appears alongside a caption about being a top student, knowing 'the method,' or being written about in a textbook[6]. Creators often combined the picture with the Blackbeard Writing meme, framing Vegeta as the brainy reader opposite Blackbeard's scribbling author[9]. The 'Do you want the method?' catchphrase attached itself to the image early and stuck as the format's main hook[1]. ## How to Use To make a Vegeta Reading post, creators typically overlay a studious or self-aggrandizing caption on the image, often using a slow fade-in effect on TikTok so the picture reveals itself at a punchline. Common conventions include captions about being the smartest in class, knowing a secret 'method,' or being the subject of a textbook, and the image is often placed next to the Blackbeard Writing meme for a reader/writer gag[9]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Vegeta Reading?
