# Who Are You I Am From Ancient Greece Who Are You I Am From Ancient Greece is a catchphrase from a May 2020 animated Instagram video in which a cat girl in a trans pride shirt tells a Greek man "I don't deserve you, you deserve a real girl," and he replies with the title line over Caramelldansen. By late May 2020, TikTokers were ripping the Greek man's audio and placing it under unrelated clips as a non sequitur reply. ## Origin On May 4th, 2020, Instagram animator @Wilmakesmemes posted the original clip in collaboration with @voice_over_shill and @asmrbuttcheekclaps[1]. In it, a Neko girl wearing a trans pride shirt says "I don't deserve you. You deserve a real girl," before the frame cuts to a profile sketch of a Greek man who responds, "Who are you I am from ancient Greece"[7]. The soundtrack is Caramelldansen[8]. The art of the cat girl itself traces back to an earlier illustration by Twitter artist @paxiti from May 28th, 2018, which racked up more than 9,900 likes before the animation reused it[3]. - **Platform:** Instagram (origin), TikTok (viral spread) - **Creator:** @Wilmakesmemes - **Date:** 2020 ## Overview The joke rests on a hard tonal cut. One frame holds a soft Neko illustration confessing an earnest line about not deserving her partner, and the next frame shows a flat-profile drawing of a bearded Greek man answering a totally different question[1]. Caramelldansen plays underneath both panels, which flattens the romantic beat into a bit[6]. The Greek man never acknowledges what the cat girl said. He only identifies his era. After the audio got isolated on TikTok, people started attaching the Greek man's line to clips of parents catching teens doing something awkward, pets getting called out, or anime characters mid-confession[3]. On-screen captions reading "Who are you I am from ancient Greece" also started appearing over screenshotted DMs on Twitter, turning the catchphrase into a dismissal gag for any unwanted romantic approach[2]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Who Are You I Am From Ancient Greece?
